MOT test - Held at high revs for over 3 minutes?!

Had my MOT recently and for the first time I was seriously concerned as I sat in the waiting room.

The tester held the car at extremely high revs, the sound recording I made (as it went of forever!) sounds like upwards of 4000rpm for 3-4 minutes!? It was screaming. Then he dropped the revs and did several limiter hold tests.

It sounded like abuse and I was extremely concerned, I’ve never heard such a drama, was it required / necessary?

I didn’t get to talk to the tester. I did also see he was wearing wireless earphones…… was not happy.

From the .gov MOT guidance -

2500 rpm (or half max engine speed) 30 seconds

No rev limiter testing is required. Very odd behaviour from your tester. I'd be upset too.

Checked dash cam and i have good footage of it.

See video https://youtu.be/G7Qce-rJTRE

Revs held from 3:22 to 07:12 (3 mins 50s total)

Followed by 4x rev limiter throttles.

It honestly sounded horrific from the waiting room, i have never in all my 12 years ownership revved it so high.

Def sounds like he over did it. You’re lucky with the dash cam footage. Last
mOT my tester apologised for not plugging the dash cam back in. Apparently it’s procedure to un plug them as recording of MOT testing is a no no

The only reasons I can think of for this are:

The vehicle had failed the emissions tests by a very small margin and the tester was giving it an Italian tune up to blow it through before retesting.

Or and this is terrible, perhaps it wasn't up to temperature and he was helping it along before testing.

Either way I think it needs investigating.
Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
