@Gazellio. Are you aware of the new French environmental zones ? You MUST have a window sticker if you enter the zones, even if there is NO limitation...
You can only see if you are allowed into the zone the previous evening from 20h onwards... ..depending on the sticker you carry..

Yes was aware but I was recommending motorway route to French Mountain villages/towns not the big cities...
We go every year in 4.5t Motorhome to France/Germany/Austria/Italy never have a problem as we have no intention of driving into (or through) the Centre of big cities.
Mr G, I am not sure of your age but do you remember "The Champions" with the beautiful Alexandra Bastedo ? The 1st pic in your montage reminded me of the program The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

@Gazellio. Its not just big cities now. The area -valley- around Grenoble and the 'route' to the french alps now also has a restriction !
Really what part of the Motorway to French Alps (Calais to Chamonix) is restricted then?

@Gazellio
I get lost in the maze of websites on the topic. I was mainly aiming at D3's like mine '06 plate without filter... I applied for the french vignette as it still allows me in to some places. For Germany I don't bother ;it's euro4 or higher only in most cities, highways are not affected, so I just won't stop ! I just won't go there anymore at all as of 2018. This due too the toll they will impose soon. I refuse to pay toll for roads for which the foundations were built in WW2 by slave labour !

Grenoble Area "Emergency Only" City Scheme (again very unlikely to effect you)
Introduction
An emergency low emission zone scheme started in Grenoble on 1st November 2016, in cases of air pollution when older vehicles are banned.
A sticker called 'certificat qualité de l’air' is mandatory for French vehicles and from 1st April 2017 also for foreign vehicles. Look for more information under 'National Scheme' on this page.
A fine of 68€ - 135€ will be send as a penalty for not complying.
Dates and details
From 1 November 2016:
The Grenoble Metropolitan area has an emergency low emission zone scheme during high pollution events:
On the second day of a high pollution event the speed limit with be lowered to 20km/h.
If the pollution event lasts longer than five days only vehicles with a Crit'Air sticker are allowed to drive. See the national scheme section below for more details on the sticker. Public transport can be used with one ticket throughout the day and renting a bike (Métrovélo) is half-price.
If the events lasts longer than seven days vehicles need a minimum of Crit'Air sticker. Public transport and renting a bike (Métrovélo) is for free.
A pollution alarm was in operation from the 7-18th December 2016. Another started on the 21st December 2016, 2nd January 2017. Check on our news page, also the Grenoble city announcements on pollution alarm.

You need to facelift your 06 too late model D4 like I have with my 2005. They will not bother checking you even if you EVER end up in a pollution zone on a pollution effected day

@Gazellio. My license plate of my D3 gives me away. If they type it into their mobile registration verification system they identify my car as 'no DPF ' car, no matter how much I disguise the looks...
I also have a EURO4 FL2, this will take me the 80 miles to Germany comfortably enough if we go -just across- to Bad Bentheim.
No toll, no environ "mental " zones..
My FL2 is the same basic concept as your D'4' ... BLACK..

I am waiting for a dry spell to replace the 'mirror' letters by 'black'... ..not so mirror due to delaminating..
I am thinking of registering my D3 in Portugal and leave it there permanently instead of driving it up&down each year. I don't need any stickers in the Algarve exept for the local roadtax...
