Mounting kit for after market Sat Nav |
|
If this is common knowledge then please forgive me but I've just discovered that there is a mounting kit available to enable the fitting of an after market Sat Nav. My local LR dealer thought here was no way of doing this but they suggested I ask at a local specialist - one that they use - and a kit has recently become available.
It's a double DIN unit and I'm having a Kenwood unit fitted. It solves all the problems giving sat nav, bluetooth, radio, video, rear camera, iPod/iPhone.

You remove the radio (mine is the 'premium' version but not the Logic 7) and the mounting box fits in to take a double DIN unit. You then have two escutcheons to finish off the job and make the fitting look like the factory original.
If I can work out how to do it I'll post a picture when I get back at the end of next week. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

you can remove the low line radio but not so sure about the high line as it integrates some bits. check before you buy.

I can see problems with that as the amplifiers are connected by a fibre optic link, without that you would have to re-wire all the speakers to the new unit directly which would be a big job. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

The AMP is only on cars with the Highline or premium. If you have that you can always run another AMP under the seat.

Got the D3 back today after having a Kenwood 7240 fitted. The job looks as good as if it had been fitted when the car was built.
It completely replaces the original head unit and amplifier and I've lost the sub woofers in the tailgate. The sound is better than it was and I'm more than satisfied with it - not that I've had much use from it yet.
The GPS is Garmin, the hands free kit is Parrot and the audio is Kenwood. I haven't sorted out the video input for the rear view camera yet. It's also got DVD, USB, Bloetooth. I can't remember what else! Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Unnecessary quote removed
It's the new Kenwwod DNX7420BT and I paid £1200 all in - I'd had a bit of a windfall! Fitted at John Kleis in Reading.
If you add the cost of a good satnav, a good hands free kit and all the other bits and pieces it's not as expensive as it seems, especially as there was until now no way of fitting an aftermarket sat nav at all. It has:-
Sat Nav
Hands free kit
Bluetooth for mp3 player
USB
DVD/CD
Tuner
iPod control
rear/reversing camera input (nav screen can be split)
TV input (needs tv tuner)
2 video inputs
A good bit of kit! Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

True, but there are other and cheaper units available. The important thing in my mind (and the reason for the thread) is that for about £50 you can now buy a mounting kit and have a built-in sat nav if you so choose. Until now it's really been a case of factory-fit original or one stuck to the windscreen. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Nice !!! 8)
I am currently doing the same but the main unit which has all the features you have listed is going to cost £250 + £50 for fascia, cage & all mounting bits included.
Only difference will be that as I have the Piano black H Trim the black/dark grey fascia will blend to the black uprights of the H trim. On yours is the screen pop out & up or permanent upright all the time?
Once I have completed will post pics.
