What about the Discovery Sport? More modern and refined than FL2 and cheaper to buy and run than a D4

Thought about that but it doesn't offer me much more than I already have. Having my kids grow up, leave and get married meant I could get by with a smaller car but now we have grandchildren and a largish dog all of a sudden it doesn't seem big enough!

I borrowed a DS for the day on Monday while mine was in for a service.

It's a very nice car in its own right, but it's closer to being a VW Golf than a full size Discovery. It's certainly much more car like than a FL2.

OK, thanks for all the advice. Just thought you should know I put a deposit on a D4 Landmark today.

Just remember, it's all your fault! Very Happy

Result!

We'll take the blame, if we can take the credit too! Very Happy

Congratulations! The FL2 is great, but the D4 is the real deal. Thumbs Up

Plenty of photos on collection please! Especially if you can a side by side shot with the FL2; are you trading that one in?

I'll have a go. Yes I'm trading the fl2 metropolis. It's kept its value really well as based book value rather than part ex notional value I've lost ยฃ4K in 16 months (ยฃ250/month) I bought it at 6 months old ex dem with 1500 miles on the clock so I'm delighted really. I think this is because LR chose not to replace it like for like so for some the DS is not a straightforward replacement. Hopefully the Landmark will perform similarly.

Funny that you should say that.

When I traded my 12 plate FL2 HSE in in 2014, the value was surprisingly high. The, lightly used, 63 plate, FL2 HSE Lux was then traded for the Disco in Sept 2015 and the depreciation was even lower still! The price of very tidy, high spec, late model FL2's seem to be remaining stubbornly high on the used car websites. The DS may be selling well, but there would seem to be a hard core that aren't convinced and are buying up cars like yours and mine as soon as they come to market. Mine was sold to a waiting buyer, sight unseen, before it was even cleaned!

With the D5 likely to be very similar in concept to a scaled up Disco Sport (albeit, with a fancy aluminum platform), I seriously expect the same thing to happen again. Except, this time, it might be even more extreme; with the FL2, the Defender and finally, the D4 by then gone, there will be no properly practical new Land Rovers left to buy. What a surreal situation to be in! Shocked

It'll be interesting to see what happens next....
