I have a standard 2005 TDV6 HSE that needs new tyres. When i enquired i was quoted $495 NZD per tyre which seems pretty expensive to me. Is that about right or is it just that i am out of touch, i am not sure which tyre they were quoting but it still seems alot.
Thankyou 1995 V8 ES - SOLD.

Unnecessary quote removed
I have standard 18 inch Goodyear Wranglers on my Sport 255/55/18 and they cost $425 Aussie a corner.. I think LR did go for the more expensive tyres out of the box another Pommie from the darkside

Try other brands they are cheaper GG ATs or Cooper HT+ if you want a highway tyre. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Welll worth looking at what tyre they are suggesting you fit. Over here in the UK the general view seems to be that our standard fit (255/55/19 Pirelli Scorpion Zero) is sh!te. Consider what you want your car for and the kind of conditions you drive in and make a decision to look at other options.
If you are on 19" wheels then options are limited but folks seem to favour something along the lines of: -
Goodyear MT/R - great if you do lots of muddy stuff, decent value and ok wear rates but can be a bit noisy and may well cost you one or two mpg
Pirelli Scorpion AT/R - expensive but likely to get twice the number of miles as the Scorpion Zero and good grip
Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme - supposedly a great tyre if you need to cover winter (snowy or even very wet) conditions
Upgrade to 20" and the world opens up to you.
Whatever you do I would say don't just go with a dealers "replace as OEM" and have a think and look around at the options.
