I do like increasing the pressure in my tyres in all my cars. A slightly harder but better ride.

Check you've not got a binding brake caliper or EPB, every time my mpg heads south the brakes were the issue. I work on 15mpg for short cold trips (walking dogs very locally) 20mpg round town, 27mpg at steady 75mph and 29mpg at a steady 60mph. That's when all working well, lots in the car to rob you of mpg when these bits go wrong.

When did you get to 75 Del
I've averaged a true 24mpg over the last 56K miles. And much the same as you Derek - round town kills mine as I have a 8mile commute to work every day through urban traffic, so is stop start all the way.
Best I've had is 29.7 - worse 15.1
Pretty sure my brakes are not binding, though I am changing front ARB's tomorrow, so will have a look at them whilst I'm at it - if I have time, I'll change the rear pads and check the EPB. Mark.

It has been known to get above 60mph, usually when SWMBO's driving. Best actual 36.2 (was a warm day and a good run) and 11 (dune bashing in Tunisia).

DRIVE ANY OF THESE CARS IN SPORT MODE ALL THE TIME. YOU WILL GET BETTER FUEL CONSUMPTION as well as a more responsive motor. Granted it is not as peaceful but economy and driver enjoyment are definitely greater. Our family D3, 2007 year SE model, now just clocked 143000, has not had an EGR valve or turbo problem of any kind or any of the other issues that seem to plague these motors. The more I have used these cars, and I use ours VERY hard for all sorts of different work, from long motorway thrashes (Italy and back to UKcruising at 85mph) to off road jaunts in Lakes and Dales, launching my dad's old boat so in water half way up the rear number plate!, long drags with 3.5 ton triaxle Ifor and that most taxing of tasks - being the family hack for up to 6 teenage kids, the more convinced I am that they thrive on hard work. It is being gentle that these cars seem to like the least.( Yes, I know we were all told to be sympathetic drivers!) The engine doesn't get properly hot right through, the battery doesn't get charged right up, the cat does not get hot enough to really clean up etc etc etc. This car regularly returns 31.5 mpg on an 18 mile A road run to school and back and teenage girls are NEVER early for anything so the car is never dawdling on this run.
One other benefit of driving in sport mode all the time is that the gearbox will downshift sooner for engine breaking, which the driver can help by downshifting manually (I use this method frequently). This can considerably increase the interval between brake pad and disc changes.
Enjoy!

Tried sport mode for a decent while years ago, no improvement in mpg.
