Multiple faults related to the EPB?

Hi all. My parking brake jammed in Mid March the day of lockdown so I duly released it, but it didn’t release. The s.hoe material had come off and jammed the wheel, then freed off, and the parking brake jammed itself on.

Cut a long story short, I couldn’t get the parts to fix the car so it sat for a bit. I took off the shoes cables etc and waited for the bits to come. Fast forward a month and the bits arrive but I need to use the car so I plugged the EPB unit back to the car, bagged it up and tied it down to allow this trip.

The stuff for the parking brake is here and I’m going out to start putting all back in but the car has several other faults appeared.

1 Lost communication with the parking brake listed in suspension
2 Suspension fault and taking too long to build air
3 Fuel gauge shows full when I start the car but very quickly goes down to empty, in very gradual increments, after about 2-3 miles.

The suspension gallery pressure shows as 1350 kPa, but the exhaust seems to blow off 3 or 4 times just before the fault displays.

Once it does, it drops to 189 kPa, and very slowly leaks away to 100 over a period of about 5 minutes.

I’ve read about the sender issues and plug issues, so I’ll start looking at that once I’ve finished the EPB. The desiccant in the compressor was all powdered, so I have be cleared that out. I’m ordering the compressor rebuild kit, and I’ll do the compressor rings etc st the same time. Have they all happened at the same time or have I done something when I pulled the EPB plug?

I have no clue how much fuel I have left, it can’t be much. Hopefully below 1/4 tank so I can drop the tank. Should I start there or check the connectors first?

Not sure where to start really.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

I should add that I have the iCarsoft LR2.

I’ve refitted the parking brake unit cables etc today, but it’s not playing ball.

The motor runs, doesn’t sound like it’s not meeting much resistance and it goes into EPB fault. Two codes, one is module, the other emergency release pulled. It’s not, unless I accidentally pulled it routing the cables, it’s either that or the switch is damaged inside the unit. Anyway, back to the drawing board.

I reckon I can get to the unit in situ now by removing the bracket and spinning it round.

Weirdly, the suspension hasn’t failed yet, and the fuel gauge seems to be reading a quarter tank when ignition goes on. Hopefully all I have to do is solve the parking brake issue then?

Am I better to buy a refurbed unit? I’ve worked on these units before on other cars but this ones got me beat almost.

Ok. Thanks. Could you be a bit more specific? Is it the large connector? It looks clean enough. All the connections look good. Guess I'll start testing them.

I went back and re-read Bodsy's Brake Bible. I obviously need to do the whole set up process again.

Shocked

As you used the EPB emergency release, EPB can't be used until it is re-latched using diagnostic kit. As you have operated it since then you may have over wound the mechanism, if so then you may have to manually free it up then re-latch it using DM's instructions.

Hi. I rebuilt the EPB with new years and relatched it when I put it back together. Is there something I need to do in the software to tell it this?

I thought maybe a cable had become unlatched when I was routing all the new handbrake cables?

Thinking about it, If a cable had detached them it would jam up when operated so if it is running with out doing anything then perhaps you'll have to remove it again and re-check the gears.

Life and the weather prevented me getting back to the car till today. Near side cable had come out of the shoe clip. The little spring had broken the end off.

Well done Oswiperus.

Now working a treat. Thumbs Up
