Hi Evo,

Thanks for your input, it is appreciated. I will let the Big Cheese answer the comparison question for you in detail Smile, but short answer is that the MSV-2 is the most capable diagnostic unit in terms of functionality at the moment, no stone left unturned, and not just for the D3. Not to put the nanocom down by any means but please remember it was released for D3 on December first, and since then has had about 15 firmware updates and its capabilities have grown accordingly. I think as I wrote this reply they might have released a few more Whistle Whistle

As Geoff said, we just had a chat about Genesis. Nothing to add yet but we are looking into it.

thanks

chris

As the Big Cheese of BBS i can respond to your question by explaining to you that the MSV-2 is mainly different from the Nanocom in that the MSV-2 is vastly more capable in respect of acces, capability and functionality and is also totally self contained and provides the capabitity to save, edit, write the CCF and flash any ECU with any file set without any dependancy on a connection to the internet and Genesis.

Hence MSV-2 owners really require no special access to Genesis.

Chris / Geoff thanks for info. I am ok with MSV2 Twisted Evil

As the Genesis owners group grows - joining the two support forums might be beneficial for all bbs product owners as well as for support people. Thay will not have to answer the same car related (not system related) questions twice Laughing

A couple of points to address here guys. (with teh help of Geoff Thumbs Up )

Geoff was on about the ease and functionality of genesis, as in the ability to select the correct files needed. Granted MSV does not need genesis to function, but makes life easier, i.e. is a useful tool.

Second, evo8 is talking about the nanocom forums (not genesis forums Smile ), and the blackbox forums and the sharing of knowledge. Linking both forums together.

both very good points, both appreciated, both shall be looked into.

hope this clarifies it.

Chris

I quite often read a lot of posts on both forums in respect to the MSV and the Nanocom, and if I can help I will answer and try to help whoever is stuck, Its surprising what you can learn by reading the posts.
But most new users need to realize if it ain't broke don't fix it, by just flashing an ecu just because you can..

Had the phone Geoff this morning about a TCCM update on a D3. Was needed to try and cure an X-Y sensor issue, hopefully, without replacing the sensor Whistle

The current software part no was not recognised at all by the F/M, and no available option listed that S/W no.
Thanks to Geoff, who has access to Genesis, he told me which file I needed to re-flash with.

Just a bit of a pain that the F/M owners can't see that, and I'm sure the point will come in the future when Geoff tells me to Censored off and stop phoning him Laughing

Allow me to elaborate further on this statement.

By access, i mean no individual Genesis access accounts or ability to download either CCF or Flash files sets that Genesis provides the ability to do, as these can only be used for a Nanocom.

From the posts here, stating a desire or preference to use the Genesis database to figure which flash file set may be applicable in any given case or even learn what CCF settings a vehicle had when it was built, it seems clear to me that everyone seems to have forgotten that you don't even need to own any BBS equipment to have access to the Genesis web site.

For quite some time now absolutely anyone has had the ability to log into the Genesis web site using the user name "demo" and password of "genesisdemo", as previously published on this forum and elsewhere.

After that you can type in any VIN you wish etc

In respect of forums, we provide free access to our technical support forums for our various products.

These forums are however provided soley for us to provide technical support our various products and assist owners of them encountering problems with the respective Diagnostic system thay have purchased from us.

For those few of you who have both, ask yourself what would an MSV-2 owner know about a Function Locked error message or a Nanocom owner know of a sofware module not installed error message.
