I have a D2 with a portable navi system currently and going to pick up my new US Spec LR4 at the factory on Thursday . The people at LR have not been able to give me a straight answer of whether or not the European maps for the navigation system will work in a US spec vehicle. I live in Germany and really wish to get rid of my portable window mounted navigation. So can anyone tell me if the Western European maps will work on my vehicle and if so can I load them myself? Thanks for the help

I can see no reason why they wouldn't. As far as I know, there is no difference in the navigation system between the LR4 and D4 - only the maps that are loaded on the HDD.
However, you cannot load them yourself. This can only be done at a dealer.
When you say "factory", do you mean "dealer"? It has been some while since LR stopped delivering vehicles directly to customers ex-factory.

My dealer here in Germany just came back from the LR factory in Solihull and that is what they told him, that they are unsure of whether or not they can load the maps. I am actually going to the factory in England on Thursday to pick up the vehicle. I am very excited, just wish I could use the navi system on my way home to Germany. They are doing a factory tour and the LR experience for me while i am up there.

I just got back from England with my LR4 and the people in Solihull told me that I need to swap HDD for about $600 in order to get the navigation system working. Does this seem suspect to anyone else?

Hmmm something not quite right I think...unless there is a fundemental difference between the LR4 v Disco4 setup, which is hard to believe. It is only software afterall.

Sounds like something that our BBS friends could enable (but you'd need to get the Map Data) Bodsys Brake Bible
D4/D3 Remote FBH heat kits
BAS Remaps/ EGR Blank
Transmission Flush
Software updates/enabling
Clock/ SNOTM /3Flash / 4x4Info /BT Update /Service Reset/Error Codes / Gearbox Reset

Some additional map data may already be installed. The system is different from the D3.
If you go to the map selection screen, you will see a list of the map data that is already on the hard drive - some of this will need the purchase of a code to activate. If the map data is already loaded, then the code can be entered in the car.
Check that first, and see what is installed. If the European mapping is, then it is just a matter of getting the code from LR......which is what they might have meant possibly?
