Another picture that shows well that the people driving these things have no idea of the space it occupies, or much by way of the consequences. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Interesting news article on the local STV news this evening and previous recent articles.

A significant number of people doing the NC500 are now doing it in a day with the related road safety issues - speed and forgetting which side of the road to be on. I’ve had a look at the injury road accidents in the last 5 years and it’s not good reading.

The ones that don’t are taking camper vans, clogging up the roads and open spaces. The Bed and Breakfast trade has dropped off the scale.

The route is now attracting an increasing amount of local opposition.

All as predicted. Rolling Eyes

Passed my test in 1959. Covered the roads of the so called NC500 in various sections in the 1960s on motorbike and various primitive forms of vehicle starting with Morris van followed by 1961 VW Beetle. Bliss apart from punctures and breakdowns. Berriedale Braes were a bit hairy in the Beetle. Deserted single track roads mainly. You made sure that you avoided the single tracks leading from harbours when the fishing lorries were thundering non-stop to Inverness with the days catch. Most people respected the passing place conventions. Travelled a lot around Caithness and Sutherland early 70s in series 2A leaving caravan pitched at Brora. So glad to have had all the wonderful experiences in those far off relaxed days. I remember stopping for fuel in 1965 at a solitary roadside fuel pump near Tongue. The little old lady came out the house and filled the car from the hand pulled pump. I asked if there were any places where we could get a meal. She told us to come away in ben the hoose and she served us a beautiful ham salad. Magic!
Been to Thurso in recent years but the roads are so busy and Berridale is no longer a challenge in modern LRs. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.
