If you wanted to travel a bit further to Penrith there is the brackenrigg about 5 Miles from the m6 junction with real character overlooking Ullswater
Salmsbury Hotel near Preston (2mins off the M6 at Junction 32) Its where some of the football teams stay overnight when travelling up from the south and playing in Lancashire.The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Last time I was in Preston, a footy team were staying in the same hotel, that was a Travel Lodge and it was Dagenham & Redbridge.
Guess everyone finds their level !!

We tended to stop slightly further North, at the Lancaster Holiday Inn where we could all get a (fairly) decent breakfast and a swim in before starting the rest of the journey.
Price used to be very keen but less so more recently.
Very slightly further North is Pine Lakes Resort and they often have stunningly low prices for one-night stays.
They are a bit funny about parking and the swimming facilities are extra IIRC but the accommodation is good standard and nicely equipped. Excellent if you have 5 or so people in your group also.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

There is a Premier Inn at the Lancaster turn off A683, it's OK for an overnight and there is a restaurant attached.
Lancaster Business Park, Caton Road, Lancaster LA1 3PE
