| need advice please for my discovery 4 (New Member) |

I would be very grateful for any help and advice for a major problem with my discovery 4
59 plate 2010 3.0 tdvs SE in excellent condition but the engine seized at 101k miles .
Love the car and want to if possible either have engine rebuilt or recon engine fitted .
I have found it a minefeild of companies offering this service and have found nothing but false reviews and false promises and to be honest very nervous about entrusting the work to anyone now.
I do not want to scrap my lovely car but can any of the forum members help with advice or past experience of good trades people who do an honest job .
Was quoted 19k by landrover so that ended that phone call but I am realistic about costs and hoping someone on forum has had a good repair experience with this type of engine failure ,
I am on the South Coast near eastbourne but realise I may have to transport vehicle and willing to do that if I can find a garage at a reasonable cost and good reputation
Any advice or help gratefully received

Ah, sorry to hear that...
QP Online in Maidstone are generally touted on here as one of the best.
Those who I trust with LR knowledge on here rate them.
Good enough for me.

Sorry to hear about your car. Sadly the value of the car is significantly less than the cost of the repair but for a car you know and one you may well keep then a good repair is not a daft idea.

Thank you for the advice and very helpful .
I know economically probably not viable but love the car and will have a try .It is in excellent condition so will at least make some enquiries .
Thanks again for the advice and pointing me in the right direction .

Hi again
Now had a chance to call a few people and to basically to have it done with some degree of confidence and a decent warranty it comes in at between 9 and 10k with new turbos.
If I do decide to have it done it will have to be a keeper for at least two years or do I bite the bullet and look for a decent replacement . lot to think about and no where near making a decision .
head says get rid . heart says repair it . Love that bloody car . ho hum

Out of interest, would a rebuilt engine be more robust than the original (improved internals, etc) or 100k miles later likely to do the same?

to be honest to that last reply and thank you its all about confidence in the rebuild.
Would like to say to NJSS .
Spoke to Joe and a nicer guy you could not meet . Gave me loads of great sensible advice and a few alternatives also a great contact in Kent .
Thanks again for all the advice and I will post updates and perhaps it may help other newbies like myself .
I tinker with cars but I know there are experts on here but learning every day

Ten grand to fix a car that's worth around that anyway is a lot of dosh. You could get it fixed, pay £10k then sell it for £10k, not having made a thing. At least if you sold the non-working vehicle for parts, or even scrap, you'd be ahead money-wise.
But I know what you mean. If I were you, I'd maybe think about getting another car to use if you haven't got one. Nothing special, maybe not much more than a banger but transport, so you don't have to jump into repairing the Disco. Then you can repair the Disco when you are up for it financially and have the time to look around and make the right choice instead of rushing into something.
I've got a 2010 Disco4 and it's true they are a nightmare at times and when things go wrong, there's always a premium to pay. But, like you, I love that car, so hey-ho, I keep paying and it keeps rolling along.
