Need help identifying my VIN

Hi,

I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to post this request.

I’m trying to figure out which VIN number I have (6A or 7A) my log book states that the car was registered 04/10/2007 however I’ve been https://osh.landrover.com/home?brand=land-rover And this says it’s a 2008 model?! How is that possible?

My vin is SALLAAA178A460989 in my eyes this makes the car an 8A right? Is there anywhere on the engine I can check this manually?

Also if this turns out to be correct which oil pump would I need to buy https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/camshaft-drive-belt-156-c.asp I’m still in the process of taking the bits off required to get to the timing belt, just waiting for the spanner for the fan that should turn up on Monday.

In the mean time I just wanted to double check I’m right about it being an 8A (which is really confusing considering it was registered in 2007)

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: I’m making assumptions that the oil pump will need changing and won’t know for sure until I’ve taken it apart.

You are reading the VIN correctly!

Same with my car, registered in Oct 2006, on a 56 plate and has a 7A VIN.

LandRover like to confuse.

Your date of first registration should show on your V5

Landrover will class your vehicle as a MY08 - in other words a 2008 build. This is not the same as registration.

My car is a MY12 but first registered in 2011 with a 61 registration plate.

Nothing on these cars is ever simple Rolling with laughter

How odd.. Shocked
Don’t suppose you’d know which pump I’d need to buy from https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/camshaft-drive-belt-156-c.asp
I honestly started to think I’d bought a really dodgy car for a moment then.

The VIN shows the model year (MY) , not the year of manufacture. MY usually starts in August/ September of the previous year. This is common across the motor industry . 1995 Model Discoveries started in early 1994 because of a change of plans, to bring forward changes. Conversely my D3 is a 2005 MY, sold late December 2005, sometime after the 2006 MY had started.
