- Steering wheel buttons don't work
- Horn buttons dont work (horn does work as when alarm is engaged it honks)
- No difference when measuring with DMM at the SW1 pin in the audio unit connector
- Fualty driver airbag (stage 1 and 2 as scanned with obd)
- Audio unit doesn't work (but there is power and tested for ground on the units case)
The first 4 all point to faulty clockspring. The last one I'm not sure as I have no way to test the audio unit. It could be something deeper like a bad Instrument Cluster Module.
Edit: Instrument Cluster otherwise seems to be working fine. May or may not be related.
Before I go buying yet another spare for no good reason I'd be grateful for any feedback.

I am not too sure though about the relationship between the clockspring and the head audio unit - in theory if clockspring doesn't work, head unit should still at least turn on, albeit with no steering buttons? Or am I speaking nonsense?
Currently my head unit (HK / high-line) is completely dead, despite being correctly powered and grounded as tested. Of course it could be a damaged head unit but who knows.

Correct.
As long as headunit has power on the 2 thick wires.
All airbag fault codes are now gone and horn buttons work.
However, steering buttons still don't work and audio head unit is dead too. I wonder if they are related. To be clear, steering buttons don't work at all, not just for audio functions. E.g. cruise control or << >> buttons for the ICC screen when a fault is displayed.
Grateful for feedback. Thanks.

The audio buttons not working with be due to the dead headunit
As for cruise. Can’t remember if that was standard fit on the S? Maybe someone has
Upgraded the wheel and there the ccf needs changing with a gap iid to state fitted
