Do I need to use my handbrake???
I have a discovery 4 automatic. over the last two years had loads of problems with my electric hand break is it safe just to leave it in park, I am just concerned, could I damage the vehicle in any way by just leaving it in park say on a big hill, I would appreciate any information thank you.
Cheers Jonathan
The theory is you are ok BUT it's a lot of car to be held by a small pawl in the gearbox.
I'd get the parking brake fixed. Find a good indy and show them the guide available on here..

If your parking brake is not working to MOT standard, your car is not roadworthy, this might invalidate your insurance.Chris

NEVER use the g/ box pawl to hold the car on a hill If you are going to do this, point the front wheels into the kerb, and let that take the strain, then put it in Park.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. I always put park break on, release foot brake to allow vehicle to roll into it and THEN place into park. Otherwise you could think you’re on the park brake but you’re actually still engaged on the pawl primarily.
I think EPBs have problems because people don’t use them and then they seizeD4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

When parked on my drive on the flat I never use the ha d brake. However out on the public roads I will use it.You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

My hand brake is set in the CCF to come on automatically whenever the engine stops, I think SS is magic when I park up, I come to a halt engine stops, undo seat belt park brake comes on transmission goes into park and ignition goes off.
Famous last words but I have never ever had a problem with the electric park brake set like this including 14 years with the last D3, but it is maintained regularly thanks to Bodsey’s Brake Bible It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

How do I do this in the CCF? (I know I'll regret asking...).PAGODA

The CCF setting is called something like “key out apply”. It only works on mind if I switch it off while in drive. It applies the hand brake and moves into park like normal. If you hold the hand brake switch down (release) and then repeat the above, the hand brake is not applied.
