And as if by magic I get a chance to try them in the snow a few days after my last post.
I didn't have to go far, but they got me up my road in about an inch of fresh snow yesterday, and I managed to get back down the road an hour or so later with no problems, so all good as far as I'm concerned.

I truly do not understand tyres - the whole size thing. Someone would make a fortune if they could come up with a website that shows all the different variations that would fit X, Y, Z cars.
Huge amounts of chat in the US on 'tires' on the US LR websites, most of which is related to LR3 which are now old enough that people are using them here offroad a LOT, and some LR4s but also - and interestingly - on the new Defender as people are very dissatisfied with the fact that it only comes with wheels starting at 20" and up, which are not great for offroading. Lots of people adding lifts (Johnson Rods - tee hee) to LR3, 4 and the new Defender, which allows a great amount of tyre combinations, and perhaps that might help folks here, also.
Anyway, my LR4 came fitted with new Nitto Grabbers, 265/50 R20 and they're fine. (And they look really good). Just hate that the vehicle has 20" rims.PAGODA

Thanks Darrind.
Do you do a lot of motorway miles? can you tell the difference?

Sorry just seen this - for some reason I didn't see this question
I do a lot of mixed mileage normally, with an office in Ascot I go to a few times a month and Living in Lincolnshire. I run 2 Discoveries on 255/55/20s without any issues, they cope with all of the local potholes and still give a great ride. The D3 has Polybushes and these are certainly harder than the D4 but switching to the 255 55s made it a bit more comfortable from the 255 50s on 20" rimsMust stop buying shiny toys....

I'm still impressed with the Avon AX7s I fitted to my D4.
They suit what I do with the car well.
Unfortunately lots of fast A roads, but with use on wet grass, slimy slipways, and muddy rough tracks.
I've just replaced the front pair after 26K miles but swapped the existing rears to the front so the new ones are on the rear.
Feeling a bit annoyed with myself for not rotating them before now.
The ones I took off the rear and put on the front still have 5.5mm of tread left above the wear indicators.
They have worn perfectly evenly across the whole width.
The ones that came off the front and been replaced had a similar amount of tread left in the middle and inside edges, but had scrubbed the outer edges down enough that the tread pattern had completely disappeared.
They were still perfectly legal, safe etc but annoyed me every time I saw them.
I will have the car checked over properly for 4 wheel alignment, but it's exactly what used to happen with the GGs I used to use on my D3 which I had the alignment checked on several times.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
