Ok ... after 5 years of ownership and 4 years 11 months of debating if it's time to change the battery (which didn't look new when I got the D4 ), I think the time has finally arrived.
I've got a Halfords Trade card, which lessens the pain, and will probably go with them for convenience.
Type in my reg and it offers two choices ... AGM 019 (expected) and HSB110. the second one seems wrong somehow. Spec seems a little low and it's physically smaller too. Price is good though.
However, I'm happier going for the HSB019 battery which I have to select manually. Only adds £18 to the cost.

I'm also in the position that I've a £20 voucher, courtesy of Confused.com for buying an insurance product AND Halfords are promoting a "Motoring Club" which, even opting for the free version of membership, will give me a £10 voucher to spend - not got it yet so hopefully no restrictions on what I can spend it on.
So, fingers crossed, I'll be able to swap the battery for just £84 ... or about half a tank of diesel at todays rates !

That’s not a bad deal Dean, the same Yuasa battery from Tayna delivered is about £108. I got the same for my D3 about a year ago. I think buying from somewhere you can return it to easily is the best bet. I’ve had a couple of other batteries from Tayna recently where the CCA was significantly less than quoted ( like 510A when it should have been 640A, even after charging ) They sent another one promptly and took that back, but I don’t believe their batteries are that great, as the one they replaced it with wasn’t much better ( to me it looks like they are selling batteries that have been too long sat in stock in some cases)…..I’ve definitely gone off buying from Tayna now. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Free fitment of 1 battery - tempting to let them do it ?
5% discount - wonder if that is on top of trade card discount ?
£10 off MoT - not likely I'll use that.

I also have a trade card, tbh, I doubt if they will allow the use of that, combined with 5% discount for ‘motoring club’ membership. Halfrauds are not that generous D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
Started with trip to local Autocentre to make sure that the "this does not fit your car" warning about the Yuasa HSB019 wouldn't cause issues when I rocked up only to be told
1. they don't stock that battery so I shouldn't be able to book it in there.
2. they didn't accept trade cards.
both of these seem stupid given the system allows me to book that battery and pay for it before i rock up, but as the hadn't filled me with confidence, decided to book in at the big Halfords in Bolton.
Took a while and a phone call to find that the "£10 Welcome" voucher DOESN'T get applied if you use a Trade Card ... but can live with that.
It DOES however allow the "free battery fitting" to apply, so £18 "saved" ( although I'd obviously have fitted it myself and not paid that )
Then, booking the slot looks good all the way through to "completion" when it suddenly switches to a different Autocentre about a mile from the Halfords main site. Tried to ring them but no answer.
So rang the Motoring Club helpline and a young lady sorted it all out for me AND gave me the direct number for the branch so I could check the booking had worked AND the battery is in stock.
All sorted now. 9:30 tomorrow, £94 for battery and fitting.
If anyone else is looking at batteries, it's worth signing up to the Motoring Club to get free fitment AND I suspect it's worth being sharp about it ... the AGM alternative has, I'm sure, crept up about £15 in price in last few weeks.

On a D4, does ‘battery fitting’ at Halfrauds, include registering the new battery to the vehicles battery monitoring system ?D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
I believe it does ... which means 15 mins prep giving them access to the OBD port, and about 45 mins re-installing the security features afterwards.

I would sooner walk than have any work done by Halfords. Took my D3 to them for an MOT a few years back, failed on suspension and headlamp aim. Flack had replaced virtually all the suspension components a few months before. Took it to another garage, all ok….
I asked if it include BMS reset and they said yes ... didn't watch them so how can I check ?
Car now starts slightly better ... based on it sounds like it spins a little faster.
They checked tyres, wipers and lights whilst they were at it.
Invoice says I paid £148 ... their problem not mine. I paid £94 + Confused.com £20 voucher
It says I used my £10 "welcome" voucher for joining the Motoring Club. This caused an issue as I HADN'T been able to use that as I used Trade Card ... but the supervisor sorted it and I spent that voucher on a Stanley organiser box = just paid 99p for it.
Asked for the old battery as it can power my son's hot-wire cutter thingy. Not an issue, although I know other places factor in the scrap value of the old ones which can be quite good for a heavy thing like these.
And a minor miracle... look what reappeared from the abyss when I reinstalled the OBD protection stuff!

A lost "ping"! It'll be an added bonus if you remember where ut goes
Panel under the steering wheel has to come out to access obd port. Top right clip always goes "ping".
