My New Coopers
Put the STT's on today in anticipation for Gerotek on Sunday
Definitely noisier and a harder ride than the all terrains , but I went and played a bit and I think they are going to be awesome off road.
Will post more after Sunday's outing
Baben what pressures do you run your at ?

On the road I run them at 1.8 front & rear, otherwise they are too harsh. If I load up, I take the rear up to 2.4. I have run them at .5 in the sand without problems approx 70km/h. I doubt you would get them to pop a bead.

I'm currently at 2.5 and I think I've lost all my fillings . Tony at LRE suggested 2.2 - so I will split the differance and try 2 for now .

OK as promised feedback on the Coopers
Great in sand - even at high pressures - the tread on the sidewall really aids traction
Great on rocks - but they must be a bit softer
Didn't get to try mud , but we know they work in that
Really suck cornering on tar at anything but low speed
Not so great at stopping on tar .
But they are for off road and overlanding use and they are going to be great at that .

The second set of rims is now a matter of sorting out.
The difficulty is with these monsters:
I would not want to swop back to the M+S b$h33t OE tyres. (one of which last weekend I popped in the Tankwa Karoo, just when getting ready for a river crossing).
And i would be looking for opportunities to use them all the time ...
So are your planning to swop back the road tyres for errands and work?
Speed rating is 160km?

Can't remember the speed rating - but as I only plan to use them while overlanding this was not really an issue for me . As you can see the tyres are on my cheapie rims , so I will also feel no pain if I damage one .

I wanted to go 17 " because that meant I could go up to 70 on the profile and still have the same radius as the std 18 " . Also went for 245 because I do a lot of sand driving and the tyres are good enough in mud not to need wider

Wow. 17's. I had no idea they would fit. Interesting option. I have some 275x60x18 of the same type but get just a hair of rub. Going to fit them next week to "make sure" because those are some great looking tires!

The 18 " will rub slighty at the back on the rear wheels - but nothing major

What will happen with 17 inch in 285 or 275? Any potential for rubbing due to width?
Is that only in the case of the 18 inch Coopers?
Where does it rub in the rear? (not itch).
Why not in 285 or 275? Too much drag? I wider not better in any event: what say you?

17 " with anything bigger than 70 will increase your radius (AFAIK) . How big an effect this will have on gearing I don't know . Ask Baben for more on the 18 " rubbing , IIRC it will wear through the plastic trim at the back of the wheel arch . Maybe he can post some pics. For sand I prefer nothing wider than 245 . Also I suspect you will get some rubbing on full steering lock with that width (275 +)

Here's the rubbing I [and everyone I suspect] experienced with my 285x60x18 Nitto Terra Grapplers on factory 18" rims

Front of wheel well on each rear tire: body seam has worn through [liner pushed around seam]

Granted, this only happened under complete suspension compression. It did not damage the tires whatsoever. I experienced no rubbing in the front or at full turn lock.
I am going to be fitting these Cooper Discoverer SST 275x65x18. I am certain they will rub, just trying to figure out where.

Cooper 18 65 265 Rub
I had Babens 18" Coopers on for a weekend.
They rub on the plastic on the wheel arch at the back door.
The front rubs on the steel bar that comes through from under the front door this is on my 2007 Baben's 2006 does not rub in front and on the left on full turn against the palstic
The clearance on the wheel arch is not such that you could turn full when the fron wheel suspension is pushed in. White LR3 TDV6 2007
