New to me D3
Hi all, am back to LR ownership after a break of a few years. Have bought a nice 2007 D3 SE, have had several D4’s and RRS previously but this is the first D3. Am very happy with it and had it well inspected before buying. However the ride seems very hard with crashing over road bumps etc. Certainly not the smooth floating ride I remember from past D4’s and the two RRS. There are no suspension fault warnings the suspension height adjusts without problem and the car had a new compressor approx 15 months ago.
Can anyone suggest what the issue might be?
Would appreciate any feedback/advice.

Check all the arm bushes, wheels off and get your head right in there for visual + pry bar.
New front lower ball joints and replacing old hard tyres made a big difference for me.

Thanks for the reply/info Harry, that does not sound too £££ was dreading it was going to be the air suspension units🤦♂️. It’s due it’s mot at the end of March so they will give those components a good check. Once it’s passed the test will then start getting the things looked at which are bugging me.
Again appreciate the reply.

More likely the arms than the bags. Tbh, I'd rather replace the bags than the arms any day of the week.
Lower balls are easy enough.
MOT should reveal all. Just ask them to have a real good look at the bushes.

What size wheels and tyres do you have?

Glynne/Harry, wheels are 18inch can’t recall the tyre profile but they are std LR wheels/tyre mix (don’t have the car with me atm to check). My last D4 had 20inch landmark alloys and the ride was way better than this D3, which really surprises me and why I was thinking perhaps an issue with a suspension component. Guess I was thinking some kind of defective valve in the air suspension lines doesn’t seem like there is any damping.
My D4 was cracking one of those cars I really didn’t want to sell and immediately regretted, it had 165k on it when I sold it but it ran and drove like a fraction of that mileage. Although in my last two years of ownership I spent approx 5k on maintenance/parts covering 60k miles. I am hoping the D3 will give me the benefits of Disco ownership but at a lower overall cost.
As you say the mot should throw up any issues with the mechanical suspension components.
However other than the hard ride I am very happy with it so far.
