What is the current thinking about when the portcullis will come down on orders for a new D4. Presumably at some point soon new orders will be held pending launch of it's replacement?

Can only order Graphite, Landmark and Commercial which are the run out models and available in a more limited range of colours. Graphite £47495, Lamdmark £55995 and Commercial £43995.
Picked up a 2016MY before Christmas and Dealer indicated they were now taking orders for April delivery and demand was still strong. If I was looking for a new 16.5MY Discovery I wouldn't wait too long before ordering.

I'm thinking of jumping into a disco but not sure I NEED the space! I have an Evoque at the moment but i don't fancy the disco sport.
What is the average MPG you get on one? Official says 37 but I'm hearing 25 is normal (combined)
Also do you think they will discount any of the specials ?

I'd say if you are thinking of getting a last of the line hugely discounted car then forget it.
Demand still seems to be strong for this model of Discovery. MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)
Prospeed rock/tree sliders w/steps
HSE Winter wheels
TransK9 B24
Travall Cargo Guard
Hatchbag

28mpg is more like it (dependant on how heavy your foot is of course).
As Dubbs has said, demand still seems to be strong. A year ago you could expect to negotiate 5+% discount but whether that applies now I don't know.
Do you need the space ? Only you can answer that but it's the one reason many of us have one ...

My mpg is 25 but primarily due to the first 10 mile of my commute being stop start and no more than 5mph
Demand is still strong as the 2nd hand market is very healthy and its a bloody good car.
I got an end of range Mondeo just after they released a face lift a few years ago and saved 000's but it's because the design dated quickly and they make a bucket load of them Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
MY12 D4 HSE - been and gome
MY16 D4 Landmark

I do like big cars so if the mpg wasn't too bad then I could make use for the right deal. I have a dog to ferry around and I seem to have been a nominated driver on loads of occasions ( and I might volunteer more with a big car)
I do like the disco. Just waiting to see if I can get the JLR discount off them and then I may make a decision to get one

No JLR employee discount available on special editions (landmark & graphite) so the only way to get any discount now is if you can find one of the regular models, build of which stopped in November for UK market so your looking for a dealer with some old stock to shift.

What colours are the still offering? I'm not sure whether to take the plunge now and order a Landmark, I have a feeling that late D4's will command a really good price in the not so distant future.

Hmmm, would have to be black out of those choices I think, I might have to pay LR a visit.
Dave T ~ Cheers, the colour really sets the car off, I only bought the thing because of the colour if I'm honest! However, how the hell did you know it was me?

I am just in the process of ordering one here in Iceland, and luckily the S, SE, and HSE are still available here. Our spec is quite different than the UK though, and there is less trim in general to keep the cost down on the pricelists. SDV6 engines are a 5200 pound option, so you don't see many around (our tax rate for the car is an eye-watering 92%...55% for the CO2 rate first and then 24% VAT). I got the impression from the dealer that ordering would be possible until the spring or early summer. I came to a price agreement right before New Year's, and the order will go this week...delivery in late April. I was able to get about 6% off of list price, but it is difficult to compare to the UK -- our importer is actually the only dealer, so as you imagine that might not do any favors for the consumer. As for last minute deals, they indicated that demand was still very high here, and that I might get a better deal last minute, but it would not be that much difference. Then again, they are the dealer, so who knows?
Since my intended use is for a comfortable daily driver combined with long trips and off road (I am a photographer and work regularly in the highlands), I am ordering a high spec TDV6 with 19" wheels, which I will likely switch for 18" Compomotive rims for better performance in bad terrain. I would love the SDV6, but at the price difference I cannot justify it. I will get an HSE with "luxury pack six", which for Scandinavia is the rear-locking differential, adaptive xenons, premium leather, sunroof, surround sound radio, coolbox between the front seats and a few other things. Unfortunately, that does not extend to the color! I had really wanted Scotia Grey, Causeway grey or Mariana black, but none were unavailable...leaning towards Waitomo grey now (all the colors are included free here), but I have had a corris-like grey Freelander 2 for the last seven years, so I was looking for something different. The green/blue tint of Scotia grey seemed lovely to me. Loire might be nice, but before the freelander 2, I had a Volkswagon passat in that color for 9 years!!
