New D4 Owner - First Land Rover!

We recently moved out to a more rural location and decided that we'd change Mrs Beanoir's Suzuki Vitara (2WD) for something a bit bigger and 4WD as we've been lead to believe by the locals that our road often becomes impassable during the winter on occasion (this is a challenge I accept!).

I've had some 4x4 in the past, the closest was probably an old Jeep Grand Cherokee that let me down in a big way and required all sorts of fixing including a new transmission, so won't be going back to a Jeep.

Been looking around for a D4, definitely wanted the ZF8 and HSE spec because my dear other half only agreed on us having a 'huge bus' if it had memory seats and reversing camera. Eventually settled on a 2012 car with relatively low mileage and full LR service history (belts and brakes done at the last service) and with remarkably good body work. The underneath of the car is crazy clean and it looks as if the car spent it's life previously in London and hardly saw a wet road, let alone any brown stuff.

Not all good though, needs some TLC. I have it booked in for a gearbox flush next week and I think one of the pre-tensioners is duff as it's squealing when cold.

Taking some getting used to and a bit of a recalibration needed with the body roll Assuming thats normal..), but enjoying it so far.

The headlights were pants too when I was out the other night, which considering they are xenon and supposed to be pretty good I was surprised. Bad enough that I was actually struggling to drive it on a country road.

I ordered some new bog standard Osram lamps as they looked a bit yellow. This made them whiter again, but still they weren't helping much more. I had a go at checking the alignment and whilst doing so realised the beam pattern looked a bit odd, on closer inspection both headlights had the lever down for driving in Europe, not only that they were pointing too low. Easily rectified and now they're pretty decent!

Cheers!

I'm using a place called Empire Tuning for the gearbox flush who are actually just over the border in Essex, but for most other work I have a Land Rover specialist in my village apparently, so I'll probably give him a try and see how it pans out.

Wouldn't be Alan Curtis would it in Halesworth? If it is he's highly recommended (by me for one)...

Hi, a couple of mods such as Apple CarPlay, some decent tyres and a roof tent. Most of the list of jobs is fixing issues or servicing stuff.

- Gearbox flush
- New front brakes
- Noisy pretentioner
- Drivers door seal replacement

So, because of the shortage of fuel at the pumps I was forced to cancel the appointment with Empire to have my gearbox flushed. Very irritating, but I won't say anymore about the selfish idiots and the press being to blame Whistle

Hoping to get the car re-booked soon and also may look to get it re-mapped, purely for the reason that I understand it can remove the REALLY annoying hesitation when pulling away or exiting slow bends. Its ruining the experience for me, but I understand it's fairly normal...???

Other than that, it's been a great vehicle for picking stuff up from builders merchants and taking rubbish to the tip!
