You bought a D5 and you loved it. Great. Just accept that others don't like it. It's not a personal attack on you although they way you jump at anyone saying bad things about the D5 certainly feels like you see it as that.
Typical of you to take this angle...I asked "how do you know?" on the basis that you might have actually made a direct comparison by sitting in both...of course though you couldn't have, could you, so it's just your assumption that £48k must be worth it just for some different seats.
I have sat in both D5 and FFRR rear seats however my experience alone wouldn't be enough to prove anything, would it? But many others have come to the same conclusion and posted here and elsewhere about the D5's rear seats being uncomfortable. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

No hatred at all. Many have found the D5 not to be to their liking but it works for you so is an excellent choice for you.

As has been pointed out the D5 seats have recently been upgraded with the facelift, not that any of my passengers complained in all the 3 years I had the 2018my motor. Maybe the issue was more noticeable to taller people.
Surprised that you managed to find the new 7 seat Range Rover to sit in though, which dealer? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

What is telling is that we are all united by our love for the D3/4. I think it’s reasonable to say that the majority of D3 owners on this forum stayed with the marque and purchased a D4 as a replacement. Some of us owned multiple D3/4’s.
Where as it would appear to be the minority on this forum who replaced their D3/4 with a D5. Which to me indicated that the D5 has a limited appeal for a variety of reasons. Which doesn’t make it a bad vehicle, it’s most certainly not, it just doesn’t have such universal appeal.
I still mourn the passing of the D4. I wish LR had treated it as MB has the G-Wagen. I’d buy an updated new D4 in a flash. I’d probably keep the FFRR as well though. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I think you are right in the sense that the D5 was never going to be a D4 replacement. Never look back IMO. Yes, they were great in the day but everything moves on ...I would have found it difficult not to stretch my finances to another D5 had a hybrid been available but I have to say that the DS has impressed me far more than I could have believed. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I'm talking about the middle row seats (being a driver of a 5 seat vehicle I habitually refer to row 2 as "the rear seats". Mea culpa). The new FFRR appears to have large luxurious seats in row 2 just as the L405 did before it. They were comfortable in L405 and no doubt the new ones will be too. D5's are not, in my experience.
Having tried the third row seats in a D5, they certainly aren't suitable for a 6 footer of "middle-aged dimensions" although I'm sure a very short trip would have been ok.
I'd be amazed if the FFRR row 3 seats are suitable for larger people either, to be fair. I don't think any car has third row seats that are, really. I shall certainly be interested to try them out when I can, just for completeness of data if nothing else.
I've tried the row 2 seats in a new Defender and they immediately felt better than the D5 ones. I did a back-to-back test as both vehicles were there and open to play with. Night and day difference to me.
D5's row 2 seats are definitely different to those in any of the other large LRs and, in my experience, not well designed. Judging by many comments here and elsewhere, my experience is not unique. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Steady on, I wouldn't go that far...
There are times I wish my RRS had a larger boot, but otherwise I prefer the handling with the active anti roll bars on both my RRSs to the softer roll set up in D3s and D4s I've driven. That and the better engine range available in the smaller model. Shame the D4 never got the TDV8 or, in the UK, the V8 petrol. I do miss the TDV8 I had. Excellent engine. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

If they're not looked after, yes they can have problems. But the V6s are prone to slipped bearing shells and snapped cranks. I know which I'd rather have to pay to repair... 8) Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I think thats easily accounted
Cost - it was a price increase, but then they all went up
Rear - widely hated and whilst spec in earlier versions helped mask it and the facelift, it really did hurt it, which leads to
First version did not appeal to the "usual" D4/5 brigade which then didnt help
But overall the D5 is better than the D4, i never had a d3 as i hated it before it was launched.
In terms of space, the D5 isnt small - i was always able to get everything i transported in my D4 in the D5, i would admit there were some elements that were better as a van in the D4, but the discovery, like the volvo needed to evolve from Van
But then i always through the original RRS was better than the D4 the only think was the smaller boot
The D5 should have had the split tailgate like the range rover Mike
