My new Disco 4 (supposedly)

Hello everyone. I am new here, having (Supposed to) pick up my 2016 LR 4 Graphite yesterday. She is a beauty, see the pic, cream leather interior too. From a land rover dealer in Leeds (Vertu).
BUT: it went into restricted engine performance mode ON THE WAY HOME! Wouldnt rev above 3000rpm and restricted speed (very difficult to drive like this I must add). It occurred after putting my foot down.
Called the dealership, they said I must stop and I then spent 2 hours by the side of the A1 whilst they came and picked it up, thankfully I had stayed in convoy with the person who took me there to pick it up so could get home. Discovery-less.
They took it back to the dealership and will be diagnosing it today, I understand that there are many things that it could be.

Question is: should this put me off or should I continue with the sale? To say it has dented my confidence in the vehicle would be an understatement. Yet it could be some minor sensor issue.

Any advice gratefully received.

Jonny

You must have your eyes wide open when buying a D3/4. They are brilliant cars but can have many issues. Your issue sounds like an inlet manifold issue. Its a known fault due to poor manufacturing quality but LR won't do anything about it. Luckily you have a warranty.

It's not great though having you new car breakdown on the way back from the dealers having just picked it up. I've always been suspicious of LR's PDI quality and thoroughness.

Hope it's a simple fix. Thumbs Up

If it is manifolds, it's the ideal time to happen! Costly job but new one( s ) should last ages ... and free for you.

Did you mean 'Inlet Manifold'? I think that's the common D4 issue?

Something as simple as low tyre pressures will put it in limp mode.

So wouldn’t get carried away by potential big repairs …. at least til you get the diagnosis.

Nice looking D4 btw. Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone so far. I was aware of the inlet manifold issue, but I checked around the top under the cover for any signs of oil, it was clean. I also found a small amount of dryish white residue under the oil cap. I mentioned both to the technician at the dealership and he assured me it was all fine and been thoroughly checked. I intended to check under the cap when I got home after a long run, of course I didnt get that opportunity. Being Land Rover warrantied, you tend to trust them Neutral
I believe it can also be an AdBlue issue or any one of the many sensors!

Thankyou for the info Smile , I'll update when I know more. The question is, do you want to be in limp mode every time something so minor is wrong? If it was tyre pressures then I should have just driven on, but they told me to stop. Do people normally carry on, I thought red warnings meant stop?

Don’t ever do that. In my experience ‘LAND ROVER APPROVED’, means they washed it, and put it straight on the forecourt, with an extortionate price tag Whistle

The FIRST thing to do with any car bought from a dealer is take it to a trusted independent for a proper going over. I’ve done that with all the cars I’ve bought from dealers and, as has been mentioned here many times before, it’s always amazing what hasn’t been done!

Lucky that it wasn’t too far away but once you get it back have it checked over by someone known to the forum…

Nice colour Thumbs Up

Same symptoms I had with a sticking waste gate on the second turbo. LR fitted a whole new turbo under warranty.

Hope it all gets sorted and it wouldn't put me off. Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone. It was a split turbo inlet pipe, they fixed it up and delivered it to me, so very pleased with the purchase. Lovely to drive, just hoping it will be reliable going forward!
