Given the bad feeling at times, I would think separating them would be a much better idea, especially as the 5 is so different to the 3 and 4 that far less technical information will carry across.Andy

I'm really disappointed. Not in the D5, but the way the forum has polarised around the very different cars that the D3/4 and the 5 are. I've been on this forum almost 13 years, and am not planning on going anywhere else.
I have grown to quite like the D5, and despite its styling problems, I still cannot think of another car to buy when my D4 pops it's clogs with me. So I would like to see the D5 section in here.
I have registered with D5, but it's not the same I'm afraid.
Is there no way that "new posts" which is invariably what I click when I login, can show items from both forums? It's an argument to say bring it into the current site.

The other thing about this Forum is its diversity. Our cars are one part but there is so much more on here than that.
We discuss camping, caravans, politics, insurance, we buy and sell etc etc etc. We engage in so much more as a forum. Seperating out the forum based the latest iteration of the Discovery takes away a lot of what makes the forum what it is.
Personally I think it a shame if it is seperated out, surely we can all get along, can't we?New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Now the D5 is here I do think we are stronger as one brotherhood just as the Disco3.co.uk and Disco4.com are....
There will be a lot of knowledge lost on the D5 site if they stay separate....brake light switch, low battery etc etc

Ive been here for a long time and I am awaiting a D5.
To be honest its got to the point when you see a post come up here in the D5 threads and within 10 posts someone is slating the car. So whats the point posting here its not constructive. Yes I know there is banta but quite often it turns nasty.
There is a D5 site (not up and running properly yet) when it is it will be a great site with lots of info. At the end of the day its only a click of the mouse to go between the sites.
All of those that want to merge the D5 into D3/4 site what do you think of merging with the D1 or D2 sites? In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

This is the reason I left the LROI forum when the D3 was first unveiled. To my mind the D3 & 4 owners need to get a life, it's a car FFS. Maybe they won't buy another Discovery, maybe they will, maybe they will buy the ultitarian model when it comes out, but people shouldn't be made to feel unwelcome. I think it should all be under one roof and get on with it.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

I am for keeping them separate, I will never post anything on this forum about my D5 when it arrives this week.
There are too many people who just have to have a go, it is not banter.

I have been here quite a long time too. I have had two D3s and two D4s. I am also awaiting the arrival of a D5.
Although with some common parts, the D5 is a new car. I recall the reaction of the D1 and D2 owners when the D3 arrived. The reaction now is not very different. It is sad.
The D5 is going to appeal to different people; no one is alike. The problem is really more one of very strong opinions, based on ignorance. This section allows those of us who are both devotees of this forum and D5 owners to share views and help maintain a balance. The discreet D5 forum can work on its own for those who actually own the car, or are planning too.
I do not have it yet, but it is my belief that the D5 will be a very good car for what I want. There are a great many negative views of the new car that are simply opinions, backed up with no real world experience or fact, and that is not to the credit of those posters.

Personally I would like to have One site.
As of today its looking likely I will own both a D4 and D5 so I will have a keen interest in both and think a lot of the more general topics and discussions would be applicable to both cars.
This forum has been a joy over the years and I think this is just a tiny blip due to the new Discoveries design not being exactly what every forum member expected or wanted (me included) that said over time I'm sure the discussion will settle back down to its usual constructive and fun manner MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
