New to Landrovers with new to me D4.
I bought the green machine back in Oct 23, with one previous owner and just over 129k miles on the clock. It was a bit rough around the edges but a good price.
However, I almost didn't buy it, as whilst the place in Leicester I bought it from gave me a list of services it's had, including all the big ones, engine, transfer, diff oils, filters and belts, there was no actual proof, bar the first couple of years worth recorded on LR website. I was also told an unlikely story, that it had a new engine at 80k, due to it being wrecked by the previous owner, an eccentric chap who was a famous Lord's son, who didn't want to be named. Tall stories I thought, and walked away.
Anyway, my intrigue got the better of me, and through MOT history I tracked the garage which looked after it to Scotland, and called them. After a good chat with the guy on the phone, the story checked out! He divulged the info unprompted, confirming that the previous owner had destroyed the bottom end in a potato field and it had a new engine fitted. He also said that whilst the owner hadn't looked after it particularly well aesthetically, that mechanically it had been very well looked after. A bit more sleuthing revealing pictures on Facebook of the engine being replaced! Needless to say, I took a punt on it and despite a few recent issues, I'm very pleased I did.
I've since done approx. 10k of the most enjoyable miles in my 25 years of driving! I've owned a lot of cars VWs,Audis, Nissans, Fords, Peugeots, Renaults, Minis and this is by far my favourite! I hope to keep it going as long a driving a dirty old diesel is viable!
Will do another Engine service, and transmission service before driving to Tornac for summer hols.
Then, I need to look at refitting the EPB module which I've pulled out, serviced and replaced a couple of bits including cables, and mounting bracket before MOT.
Also got second hand Front Runner rack, and replaced the mild steel fixings with marine grade SS.
5 x Evo Corse wheels shod with 265/65/18 Radar Renegade, which I'm impressed with so far.
Got a few other bits on the way to fully prepare for next greenlaning weekend away with my sons.

Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.

I know how you feel! I brought my first Discovery (MY16) at the beginning of last year and its the best thing I've ever brought. (and the most expensive, apart from my house) Mind you, I miss my old XF's acceleration but that's about it. I've had seven in the car quite happily with me asking, "Guys, how is it back there?" and them replying "Great! Loads of headroom!". Winner.
I love the luggage capacity but even so, I ended-up buying a dog-guard from someone on here so I could stack it to the ceiling on a trip to Ghent with the in-laws.
I still love it every time I get in it and if I had the coin I'd 'pimp the out of it' with lightbars, extra DRL's, Prospeed racks & ladder and a snorkel.

I like the roof lights, but it's no from me for the spoiler!
I'd like a dog guard too actually, stop camping chairs landing on the wife's head when I "accidentally" brake to sharp!

Fitted a Benny 4x4 rear mounted tyre carrier today. Pretty straightforward install, and it works a treat. Benny is also a really nice bloke, who delivered them to me personally.
They are made from galvanised steel yet were a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the mild steel version available from the big names.
The wheel is horrid. Just need to get tyre mounted on the spare alloy.

MOT pass today. No advisories. Quite chuffed.
Also got a working EPB for the first time since buying it. Might take the fuse out till next MOT to stop it failing again!!

EPB is one of those things that you’ll either need to use it or lose it. Not using the brake shoes for a year almost guarantees they won’t work next year.
Just saying.

Agreed.
And as the Dynamic Suspension relies so heavily on the EPB, (even if you manually handle gear changing and avoid Hill Descent). It is best to “exercise” the EPB and keep it in working order.2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green
