New member with a very odd fault

Hello all

I'm John, proud owner of 3 discovery 3's (My daily, a salvage project and a very seized kind of donor/ future build project)

Excellent site that has got me out of many sticky situations but I have an issue where Im now struggling. I have looked but can't find information that may help.

I have an issue with the central locking. It works from the button above the radio but not via the passenger door lock or fob. The key fob is known to be faulty (corroded out battery terminal) but the car still starts.

I have resoldered the common 3 green wires along the passenger inner sill and checked the fuses and all seems good.

I also have no alarm. I checked the bonnet switch and it has been bridged so could this be related, blown fuse maybe? I read that there is a fuse box under the center consol but cannot find this on my car

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated[/img]

The passenger lock doesn't do C/L

SO once your key is fixed it should be fine

Ah I see. I should have checked this on my other car really! Do you know which fuse controls the alarm? Also if I have fobs for the other cars, 4 keys in total, can any of them be reused on this one if the keyblade is swopped over?

Don’t think there is a fuse

Don’t forget there is an imboliser part of the key too

Don’t know if you can program a remote to 2 cars.
I wouldn’t risk it. Maybe try a cheap new eBay key

Yes that's a good call, with my luck being how it is I would end up with 2 non locking cars. Thank you very much for your help 👍🏻

Used D3 keys cannot be re-programmed but new Chinese keys are obtainable off Ebay and can be programmed successfully and are reliable, use the search facility for more info.

Not quite true. I bought a Chinese key and it didnt work. I bought a used key, from Ebay, that was reprogrammable which worked and still works

Was it a genuine LR key?- what did you re-program it with? - as far as I am aware D3s can’t be done with an Iid tool, D4 keys can!
There are members who have had excellent results from Chinese keys, do a search and see for yourself Thumbs Up

The new key must be the correct frequency, it should be stamped on the old key.
Have read of this, plenty more if you do a search Thumbs Up

If you have n o alarm check that the alarm has not been removed, if so it defaults to the battery.

I had a look last night and the box (marked Volvo) is still there and plugged in near the master cylinder so I'm guessing the alarms still connected. Will try get a key sorted and go from there.

Very glad I joined now, lots of helpful people.

Yep a genuine used key. I followed the search, used May from China, and sadly the Chinese key wouldn't program

Found an guy on Ebay for the replacement. Genuine fob which had been cleaned to allow reprogramming, reprogrammed with the IID tool.

Too far back in my Ebay purchase history to find the link but should be documented on here

If the alarm unit is fuct, unplug it and car will use horns instead.
