New one
So the itch has been scratched and we now own a dead 2012 d4. Failed a couple of years ago with knocking engine and was parked up. Very tidy car and the right price and spec.

And money! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Leaned it today, probably the straightest d4 I’ve seen, under the green! Engine still ran but knocked like a good un. Ran compresssor manually then started engine to lift suspension. Ran for about 20 seconds then through a rod though the block. No wonder it sounded so rough. Still, I knew it needed an engine!

So it begins! Front and rear bumpers off, arch liners out and under bonnet components removed, ready for the ramp.

Progress has been made. Plan was to use a jag donor but that’s been dragged out for ages so I made the decision to rebuild the original engine.

Broken in the usual place. Happened at idle on the drive, but I think it was snapped already!

Looks like a nice project!
How are you planning to fix the block that the rod went through? Or are you going for a new short engine and moving the rest across to that?Defender 110 SE 2021, Tasman Blue

As it happens no rod exited! The massive oil leak was the front crank seal popping out! Will get it checked and fit a new genuine crank etc.

So the donor jag arrived, finally! Engine out today. Will check what is different and swap over the required bits. Not plenty of shiny new parts to go on including crossover pipe, egr pipes, alternator, belts and any other bits needed.

So this week after work I’ve been swapping disco bits onto jag engine. Not as much as people would lead you to believe. Some awkward bits to overcome as I didn’t want to remove all the manifolds or fuel system. Will join engine to gearbox on Monday and fit remaining pipes and wires then Tuesday lift body and fit back into the chassis. I’ve got new front to rear brake pipes and rear upper arms and anti roll bar stuff to do as well. Fingers crossed she will be alive this time next week.
