Well I am now the proud owner of a new Ediff!
Service guys at Trivetts picked up a noise in it at the last service (4 years but only 70,000Km) and as I had the Allianz extended warranty even got approval for replacing it under the warranty
They actually replaced the WHOLE rear Ediff including the casing (not just the internals)! Said that is how they come supplied.
They were unable to comment on how worn it was as they don't dissassemble it. The comment was and I quote: "that it was a little early for it to wear out but still in the expected time frame as it is such a heavy vehicle on these components for wear. That is why you get extended warranty on these vehicles".
So, I suggest ALL D3 and D4 owners SERIOUSLY think about getting the Allianz extended warranty when you buy It is obviously expected by LR that certain major components (Diff, EGR valves, handbrake, front suspension) really only have a limited lifespan and will be failing some time after 3 years.
I don't tow other than a box trailer when going to the tip and do 90%+ short trips of 7Km each way to work and occassional trips to Sydney every 3 months or so. regards
Peter

I have the Allianz extended warranty, but supposedly it doesn't cover control arm bushes. I was only 4 months into my extended warranty, and it was only 5 months since one side was replaced.
Somehow it's covered under factory warranty, but not under the extended Allianz one - it's "wear and tear"
So I reckon you're lucky to get away with a whole new diff - or lucky to have a sharp dealer! 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather

I'm getting the front bushes done & Allianz are paying for half. D 3 has just done 100k so they will only pay half - allowing for 'wear & tear' . Thought this was ok ?

The way to play these Insurance knock-back departments , is to have a breakage
and not a worn-claim . They've got really clued-up on claims of recent times .
The whole new diff is no surprise , but they'll want compressors "pulled apart"
and argue the toss on susp wear and EPB problems ( unless it "breaks" ) .
Those who bought a '05 with Allianz , had no problems for a few years with claims
( and alot of them per vehicle too ) , but now there are too many policies
out there and we're on the radar , folks.

I would have been happy with half - particularly given it cost me $1500 to replace both sides - and mine's only done 60,000km (one side had only done 3000 km)
