I can concur that Service tends to be a personal thing, which can be specific to a particular individual or branch.
My experience with SS Aylesbury was adequate - I bought a D2 from them, the salesman was knowledgable and did me a very good trade in (about double book price on a 7 year old Omega, which was about 3 times what I had paid for it 6 months earlier), adequate finance, and fixed a couple of things under warranty. When I decided I wanted a G4, they couldn't be bothered to even call SS Bury, even though I made all the initial contacts myself.
SS Bury were very attantive when I enquired - Sarah in Sales was service personified, and the finance and workshop guys were excellent in prepping the car and sorting a couple of issues before I took delivery, and just to top it off, even gave me a full tank of fuel as I had a 150 mile journey home (it was previously on fumes on the forecourt)
SS HighWycombe were very good to me, and although expensive did look after me (collection and delivery everytime, nice selection of courtesy cars, invite to off roading days etc) however when they shut and moved to Slough I have since let my business follow Jeremy to CHPR, and that is mostly to do with his level of service (I am sure someone will make some double entendre out of that!!)
So it shows that some SS are good, if not all Craig

The Ad stratstones have on the site is for service and parts ..nothing about sales of new vehicles .
I will be the first to admit the sales side is ..i am still waiting for a call about changing my car , but still nothing.
Wether you use them or not , im very happy with the service side ...Barrie has always helped me out when i have a problem , normally pushing me to the front when he can .
I had to call in the parts dept today for a tailgate lock and got the 20 % forum discount , so im more than happy. G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Its a personal issue Wiggs and I'm sure like others there are good, average and bad. You only have to look a tthe posts on Cheapaschips LandRover to see that.
I'm sure you will be getting great service and a positive response from SA Bury, it's just that I'm not with my local one which is a shame as it would save me a longish drive
Nevermind I DO get good service from the non franchised company who do all my servicing and take time to get to know their customers - not just me.....
What all employees of service companies should remember is that the customers are paying their wages no custoomers, no work, no wages FORECAST FOR TONIGHT: things have happened out there!!!

Fair enough - but my point is that if someone else offers you well below with no negotiation - why bother to negotiate with the one which offers to "price match"? Why not just go back to the one which offered the lowest (and negotiate with them if you so choose)?
If you have a relationship and go there with a level of service as a differentiated factor then fair enough....
