All booked in for a new torque converter |
|
So mine is booked in next week for a new torque converter figured I'd get it done as the car is in great condition and I know it's history as well as having the timing belts done and brakes would be a shame to buy a new one and get the same issue later on.
It's about £1560 fitted so hopefully no damage to the gearbox is found and a new torque converter will give me smooth running again. If it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

Does anyone know of anyone within striking distance of Surrey able to Change the torque converter for this sort of money?
If not, can it be done in a day? If I, say, travelled to Wiltshire or somewhere? D3 07 SE - still going strong

FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet

I have the reverse problem. I had absolutely no problem with my TC but with all the problems here with TCs while I had the engine out I thought I would get the TC recon'ed, you know belt and braces and all that! Guess what ... now I get judder towing my van. Well it it only happened once in 300 Kms. Any thoughts? I am going back to my mechanic to double check the oil used but he is not the type to get that wrong.
Edit: this happened in 3rd gear at 80kmph/50mph at a gearbox temp of 83c.

A1 did mine last year. Just after I got it back I noticed two things: an annoying rattle at idle where the bracket on the exhaust joint was very loose and a growing dark patch on my driveway that was caused by a leak in the fuel line around the back of the gearbox. The mechanic who fixed it said he couldn't say for certain that the exhaust and fuel line weren't re-connected properly after the TC replacement, just that it seemed a remarkable coincidence... Previously owned an '08 D3 HSE in Stornoway grey but jumped ship to see what the Swedes have to offer.

Here's a link to the thread I started when I was having trouble 6 years ago , so prices have no doubt gone up but it didn't cost me much to end up with my T/C refurbed by a ZF dealer . It hasn't put a foot wrong since , the gearbox that is , wish I could say the same for the engine !

Sorr, been away skiing..
I used this lot, having been recommended to them from here:
https://reengineeredtransmissions.co.uk/aboutus
I had a brand new tc fitted, along with a recondition of the gearbox, gasket sets, etc.
All in £2850 inc VAT iirc?
It was £895 to recondition the gearbox and as I had the body off and the labour was nil, I elected to have this done too, though not strictly necessary..
I can't remember the breakdown but they pretty much did everything.. D3 07 SE - still going strong

Thanks for coming back on that
Surely a new TC isn’t a body off job?
Is there a diy post - I can’t find one so guess it’s major surgery!
