Congrats Thumbs Up

I do like BMW technology but the front grille… well, let’s just say there are many opinions. Mr. Green I don’t like the row with big black holes under the grille at all.

Harry Metcalfe - a proper petrolhead it must be said - really likes the X5 and but for a couple of niggles relating to his requirement to get it muddy, would buy one.

Harry's Garage is a great channel with some very nice videos - I enjoy the story of his refurbs such as a Jag XJC. He's not afraid to spend money when it's required.

Also, he has a farming channel Harry's Farm which is also informative.

Very nice! So no point in calling you to drag my caravan off the muddy field when my Defender breaks down next week! 😉

Thanks all for being (reasonably) gentle Laughing
I watched Harry’s Garage a number of times, one was his review after a short period of time, and one was his review after about 6 months. Both were, as you said, very positive. He did mention that it wouldn’t stay in “off-road” height once moving, or he would indeed have bought one. He also said the refinement made it feel more in the FFRR/Bentayga class, and I can’t disagree….it’s whisper quiet and very refined.
A part of me will always miss the D4 (it was the longest I’ve owned any car by a mile) and but for the fact the looks of the D5 have not grown me I would probably still be in a LR for my daily driver.
For now, the X5 does everything I need it to do, which as someone said, is what counts Thumbs Up

It’s going very well, thanks for asking. Donations still coming in regularly (thank you again to those on here for your support)….getting busy again with lockdown restrictions, as back-to-back shouts last weekend shows

I didn’t see them on the options list ….maybe BMW genuinely don’t put them on their cars Whistle Wink

I did however, tick the “Laserlights” option, so at least I’ll be able to blind oncoming drivers in traditional BMW style Laughing

That's why I didn't have a P400e as realistic range was 17 miles on leccy and despite 300bhp four pot it was all 'wrong' for the car/gearbox and lucky to break 21-22mpg on the engine alone but without the V8 benefit...... Confused

nice looking car Thumbs Up
friend of mine has a 65 plate X5 3.0d, it goes like poo off a shovel, very quiet and eats the motorway miles.
I would say its a spacious 7 seater but his Mrs treats it literally like a builders skip so interior space is limited... !!!

Just been through a similar process looking at Hybrids. Tried to get a test drive in an XC90 T8 but was told a 30 minute accompanied test drive for me and Mrs H was all that was on offer. When I asked for longer considering I was looking at spending a lot of money with them, answer was take it or leave it.
Went to BMW next, they had no 7 seater hybrids, and a waiting list of 12 months for a new order.
Next was Mercedes, liked the look of the GLE but the sales man didn't know how to fold the rear seats, for that matter no one in the dealership did Laughing Also told 6 months wait for factory order and on top of that 6 months to be shipped from USA to England.
Went to VW and their offerings weren't great so back to LR
Looked at a RRS plug in but didnt like the loss of boot space, was told a Discovery plugin with seven seats is at least 4 years away and would not probably be available until the D6 is launched.
So it looks like I will be getting a new D300 HSE R dynamic with a few extras. Was lucky to walk in on a cancelled order and snapped it up. One major benefit from what is going on in the world is the lack of "chips" for cars which has resulted in LR dealers not being able to commit to any future orders, yes they can take an order but cannot give any current time scale for the delivery of the car. this has pushed up prices of second hand cars and as a result my D5 has gone up in price massivley.

I promise I won’t turn this into a regular X5 blog Laughing
Just a little update, a month into ownership.
I have covered 760 miles, and averaged a frankly staggering 78.2mpg. Most of the miles (530) have been short journeys, and been on electric only, which is the reason I bought the car in the first place.
For something with 400-odd bhp, with performance figures to match (it really is quick), that is pretty astonishing when you take into account it only weighs around 150kg less than my D4. (250 kg more than an X5 30D due to the weight of the batteries)
I still have between a half and a quarter tank of petrol left too, so I haven’t even had to go to a petrol station since the initial fill-up which makes a pleasant change Laughing
I’ve worked out a full charge costs me about £3, and gets me 55 miles of pure electric. However, I’m getting a lot more than that, as the car charges on the move, when braking and lifting off the accelerator, even in Sport mode when it’s running on petrol only.
“Official” WLTP figures are something nonesense like 238 mpg, which we all know is unachievable, but I can’t argue with over 78 mpg in something that weighs 2.5 tonnes.
Having to plug it in every night hasn’t been the chore I was worried it would be either.
The car itself might not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s no denying the technology, and the way it’s been developed into the car is very very impressive.
If this was available in a RRS, or Full Fat, I’d probably still be in a LR today…..JLR really need to get this going.

I agree 100%.

I bought an XC90 T8 to replace my 15 year old D3 just over a year ago. I’ve averaged 54mpg over 12,000 miles including a trip to the Alps and four 800 mile round trips to Scotland all with six people bikes etc.

Loved the D3 but the Polestar tuned T8 makes up for it in someways.

Just a shame the Defender PHEV is not really a six seater.
