New year new to me V8 D3
Thought I would keep a record of my new to me V8 D3 faults and fixes. Experiences good or bad. I'm please to say iv picked up a pretty decent example honestly sold.
With impending ulez next august the wife will have to give up her tdv6 next to her nissan terrano its been the best car she has ever owned.....oh except her nissan patrol swb 2.8 petrol back in the day, she loved that car to and we went on our honeymoon to deepest darkest Wales in it and she won a few off roads events in it to.
Here it is after a wash n polish
Known faults listed by the seller will be addressed shortly in the mean time iv done a few small bits including full interior led upgrade, a blue bulb in the ignition barrel....I like it.
The radio didn't work and it had a bad drain on the battery bit of investigation and I pulled the radio out to find someone at some point had spilt liquid on the dash which drained down into the radio unit.
Radio completly shorted but not enuff to blow the fuses quick search on the bay and I sourced a s/h unit installed it and happy to report all is now working.
Next was to turn my attention to the roof mounted dvd player, removed it stripped it down and removed the stuck dvd but no joy again a quick bay search found a new old stock unit. Installed the Rosen unit popped in a disc tuned button 9 on the radio into it and hey presto logic 7 surround in the car. Iv found x2 headphones on the bay as well which have now been tested and placed in the car.
If it was fitted in the factory it has to work !!! My 2 kids are grown up now but you never know when you mite need it.
Now it's not all been the silly minor bits iv replaced the coolant bottle, usual low fluid warning on start up due to porous float, iv got a set of brake pads waiting to go on when I do the lower control arms. The engine will have a full service as will all the fluids. Iv replaced the air and pollen filter oh and of course fitted a new battery the original would not hold a charge due to the nasty drain from the radio.
Turned my attention to the interior it's had its 1st clean here you can see the drivers seat mid clean
The carpets has had a wet vac as have the mats.
Finally I sourced a spare wheel and replace the winch it was shot again iv sourced a tool kit and jack including a new bottle jack.
Last touches today were some new badges
All it needs now is a disco 3 forum badge in the rear windown

Looking good! Always feels nice to get some simple fixes out of the way and make the car your own..
I’m just glad I’m not paying the fuel bill I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

X2 new keys off the bay cut at my local locksmiths and programmed by me with the fantastic gap tool. Another delivery today brought a wolf mirror camera it records front and rear all.our cars have dash cams in so thought I would give this a go. We have a full size double dog crate in the rear of our D3 so rear view is non existant .
Will report back when fitted.

Car had its 1st fault this week, steering angle sensor on the gap tool quick check of live data showed -2000 on full right lock......that will do it.
... lpg as a road fuel won't be available in the UK in the next couple of years.
I run my V8 on LPG. I wasn't aware of it not being available in the next couple of years. I just had a Google and while some places are wrapping it up it doesn't look to be everywhere. Do you have a more definitive source from where you make that statement?
Up here in Scotland it's mainly Morrisons who sell it and at my local one in Falkirk there's sometimes a queue for the LPG pump. They're still selling it for 80p/l. At my local BP station near Alloa there's a pump which is mainly used by camper vans but I fill my car up there no problem. I was down in Bristol in October and had to get some of the LPG Lube - the guy at the LPG garage there (Avon Autogas) said he's suddenly got a waiting list for people looking to have their cars converted.
But at the same time the aforementioned BP garage is selling it at 99.9p/l and with petrol at 130p/l and the lower mpg with LPG it's not as cost effective as it was!2005 D3 V8

1 of the classic car magazines ran an article earlier in the year. I use an independent garage that sells at 79 ppl the 1 and only bigger franchise garage is selling it at 119 ppl. Petrol down here is either 153 or 156ppl.
Interesting - it will be frustrating of it does disappear as it does help with running costs for the moment.2005 D3 V8

At 79 ppl it's helping with the running costs of my other 2 V8s . Its more than half the price of derv this way costing 179 ppl in the wife's tdv6. I should encourage her to drive 1 of the range rovers more often

Time to fit some of the bits n bobs I bought.
Before
After
Got a few more silver bits to add and iv fitted a wolf front and rear view camera, we have a large dog crate in the back so the normal rear view mirror is redundant.
What's the best way do you think to fix the warping center leathery bit on the steering wheel? See how it's warping up at the top corners. Mine's worse than yours.2005 D3 V8

Warm it up with the heat gun or hair dryer then put a few dabs of super glue in there, that will hold it and look like new.
re the lpg, Morrisons are due to remove lpg in the next 2 years (from their future forecourt plans document), my plan is to buy my own tank from a company in the south, I was due to move up north but that fell through but when I eventually get there I will have my own filling station, during the recent high prices of fuel I had a quote for lpg for a tank at home it worked out at 49ppl just shows how much we are being ripped off at the pumpsD3 4.4 V8 2005 sadly now gone
Freelander 2 i6 HSE now gone was a very good 4x4
