Newbie hello, and sill corrosion!
Hello, noew D3 owner here bought a 05 TDV6 S a few weeks ago
We're loving it so far, especially the kids and fingers crossed it seems to have been quite well looked after. However do have a little list of jobs, mostly preventative maintenance. All I've done so far is give it fresh oil and a new air filter.
- Replace front wheel bearing/hub - this was a known issue when I bought it, drone at higher speeds esp when lifting off throttle, have a quote of about £250 using Timken part
- Fuel tank cradle is very rusty, have read a few posts on this may attempt myself
- Gearbox flush - detected a slight judder at certain revs when going up steep hills (has done 107K no evidence of gearbox oil having been changed)
Main issue right now is that I took the sill covers off to fit some steps so the kids could clamber up more easily and have been met with some crustyness towards the back lower outer sill. It seems like a real dirt trap there at the back where it joins the arch liner. On one side when I pulled the cover off to release the plastic fir tree fixings some flakes of the outer sill came off. The steps have gone on OK albeit I think the rearmost bottom bolts wouldn't go in, but I'd like to treat/fix this while I'm in the area. Wirebrush, dinitrol treatment to inhibit the tinworm?
First post of many I'm sure, luckily I'm reasonably handy with the spanners!
Cheers, Andrew

A few people have reported sill corrosion now. I suspect most have not even looked yet! so it could become a bigger problem as the vehicles age.

Welcome to the mad house
Obligatory photo of Disco needed of course
The issues you describe with the sill are common, especially given the age, you are correct they are a muck magnet
Yup wire brush and then treat and protect Iggy/Ieuan

Thanks both
I'll try to have a proper go at them now before I put the covers back on. I fear on one side if I have a good poke around I will be minus some of the lower outer sill at the rearmost few inches

Yay - I got linked to by a mod!
Take a look at this thread for what my sills looked like when I dropped the sill covers, presumably for the first time in the car's life - given how much and horse/cow pooh came out with them: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/rusty-d3-sills-157641-15.html
I wish I had taken pictures, but I was recently underneath the car to scrub/treat/paint/wax the centre rear of the body near the EPB module, where rust was taking hold around the seams - nothing holded, but wouldn't have wanted to have left it much longer. Disco Mikey's pictured that part of the body whe he treated his car..if only I could do it with the body off!
