United Kingdom 2011 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Barolo BlackDiscovery 4
What Next?

Hello all, first post in this forum! I've got a SDV6 HSE which has 173,000 miles on it. As well as the usual discs and pads, drop links etc. I've replaced the front lower arms and rear upper arms. Any suggestions as to what the next problems might be? I think a shrewd move would be getting it MOT'd in May, not Novemeber, the rains abit warmer then!

Thanks in advance

Have you had it for it's whole life? If so and that's all you've had done, you're doing pretty well.

Cracking manifolds a tad overdue. Whistle

Though to look on the positive side, the crank’s holding up well. Thumbs Up

I've had it for a couple of years, originally as a second car, then as a daily no-need-to-drive-working-from-home-car. I've done other bits, like the front wheel bearings and replaced all the brake hoses with braided.

The rear right hand driveshaft is getting replaced soon.

The manifold issue sounds like an expensive job, or a reason to walk away.

Having said that the next door neighbour has had three transmissions in his L322. It was on his second when he got it....

No idea what it cost, worth having a search here. All I know is one side is more expensive than the other and they tend to go at ~115k. You never know, yours may have been done. Thumbs Up

do they all tend to go around 115k ? im currently on just under 113k and starting to get nervous at costs like this

would the TSB still apply for a 9 -10 year old motor with 3 years of FSH (3 years LR and remainder documented indy)

im just starting to read too many horror stories on here on well maintained D4 as the mileage gets higher, I expected age related bills like worn suspension etc but manufacturer defects cant be factored in really IMO. as they are so hit and miss.

cracked manifolds, snapped cranks, turbos failing, EGR failing and so on and so on.

Just don’t think getting rid of a D4 will be a comfy experience. As I know (scrapped my last D3 in July 17 and sold my D4 2 years ago) it’s really uncomfortable sitting on a very full wallet! Laughing Laughing Whistle

well ive noticed a big difference to my wallet thanks to this year anyway, £60 a month in fuel instead of £260 and an annual mileage down from 19k miles to less than 6k miles Laughing

I think there may well be a few people in your postion. In the past, I've done weekly commutes from the North of Durham to South Somerset (such fun!). Now I barely cover 100 miles a week.

This weeks minor faults are: Intermittent clunk from rear left han side (I think its the handbrake cable flapping against the broken cable carrier), and bonnet won't release.......
