NFU covered me for Tunisia twice, albeit just TPFT first time and third party only the second time, but that was last year Big Cry

Yes, I did get third party only with a green card from NFU, (I thought you meant fully comp).

I don't expect Swiftcover would , I might be wrong though.

NFU lost all our business this year - hiked the D3 insurance from £700 fully comp, full business use any driver to £1200 with named drivers only.

Went to Tesco who did what I needed for £450 - so I moved the car and told NFU they could forget anything else they could have had (and were about to get) as well.

Seems no rhyme or reason to quotes. First year seems to be a sweetner to get you then they hope year two you don't shop around. Usually change every year, sometimes stay two years if quotes are good, rarely good for third year. Always get better deals over the phone but use comparison sights to get an idea.
Depends also who you get on the phone as well. One year my quote doubled for the car which was a year older, young drivers a year older and no claims. Phoned them up, got a lovely helpful Irish lassie on the phone an and by the end of it I had cheaper insurance than the year before, next year got a Bombay call center and was told I'd had my quote and that was that. Changed companies.
One thing I would say is go over the policy with a fine toothed comb as nearly got caught out once and it was just luck I didn't have a bump. When getting the insurance I specifically asked if I was covered for towing a trailer. Answer yes. Found on small print tucked well away from the trailer info a paragraph stating I was covered only to tow a trailer if I owned it. I usually scrounge as can't justify owing one for the small amount of towing I need to do. Changed companies asap.

Got my NFU renewal through this morning.

Based on this thread I was expecting a ridiculously high premium. I had already shopped around and got a quote from LV of £560 which is £60 more than my current NFU premium, not that bad I thought.

Imagine my surprise when the NFU quote turned out to be £471....£28 cheaper than last year with no change to T's or C's! I have been given a Mutual loyalty bonus of £28.41!!

Just got my NFU quote, £983 Thud

Ok that includes FC cover for my trailer (a massive £15pa. extra) and is for Class 1 Business Cover, max NCB (protected) and no tracker device, how does that compare to your policy TC?

I recently carried my existing NFU Defender policy over to the D3, having shopped around.
They were a little higher than some other quotes, but include foreign cover at the same (fully comp) level, where most of the other quotes only provide 'legal minimum' foreign cover, with full cover available at extra cost per trip (worth checking your small print...?).
As I do a few trips a year the prices pretty much balanced out and saves me the hassle of upgrading for each trip

NFU also has more comprehensive breakdown cover included than many, and have provided change-over cover while I sell the Defender where others would have required 2 policies

I'm contemplating looking at other companies provided I can get the Greencard for a Tunisia trip as and when I need it as a top top policy

So, does anyone "know" of a company that offers short-term Greencard insurance for North Africa trips to places like Tunisia and Morrocco? Can be basic 3rd Party cover as that's all NFU offer anyways.

Dragonfly, your points are noted and yes I am weighing all those good NFU points up, I just can't understand how one NFU customer is asked to pay twice the amount of another when we live 20 miles apart? Hence my question to TC.

Do you insure with the NFU office in Cheltenham or direct? I insure with the Moreton in Marsh branch, they also run Cheltenham, very pleased and insure all my kit with them on the grounds that good service costs more than claimed service!

I tend to swap every couple of years. I think they rely on us giving them our bank details and before we know it next years premium is out of our account. They anticipate us not being bothered or too busy to find the cheapest premium. sure some people keep paying for years with one insurance company because they are familiar with it. I went with Admiral because they were the cheapest following year almost double, now with Liverpool and Victoria, i bet L&V will be high when renewal comes around. I alway shop around.

If anybody happens to go with LV just be careful when you are due for renewal next year as I paid in full last year with my debit card and this year they took the renewal premium out nearly 2 weeks before it was due, the Censored Twisted Evil Spent ages on the phone getting my Censored money back.

Thanks Ian, will watch out for this. Will probably change companies anyway. Sure they take new customers at a break even then once they settle in sting them.
