Funnily enough this was up for discussion on LBC this morning. Some figures were quoted - the graphic is from the Daily Fail (sorry) but the source is a genuine Department of Health report from 2017 from what I can gather. This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

If the US pharma industry gets its way, the increased bill for drugs will make that wastage look like lost change.

My nan or my mum would advocate the solution 'everyone' used to use 'in the good old days; tie cotton around it tightly and it will fall off, and not bleed, in a few days or so Thumbs Up

Just to update on this, I never got around to experimenting with rubber bands and cotton etc. I did go to a meeting last night though where I remembered one of the guys was a local GP. Told him the story, he just rolled his eyes and said “FFS” and told me to pop by next week at the end of his surgery. Said it should take a few seconds to cauterise it off with a tiny bit of local.

Proving my original point completely. In the meantime I’m still waiting for my appointment with a surgeon Rolling Eyes

What happened to "Choose and book" where the GP effectively handed the budget for the operation to the patient, allowing them to go private?

The lack of data-sharing drives me mad. Everything is out-of-date and/or duplicated.

I knew the NHS was hard up when I cut through a nerve in my finger and was asked to run it under a tap in A & E: saline is "too expensive".[/list]

Just to flip this ...although skin tags are generally harmless, I know from my sister who is a retired Dermatologist, that they can turn into something more unpleasant and she would always recommend them being checked out, particularly if they get bigger or change colour.

Just relax your grip and normal colour should return
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I was talking to my wife about this. When she used to work as a nurse in A & E (this was quite a few years ago Whistle ) one of the consultants held a 'lumps and bumps' clinic every week that dealt with skin-tags, warts, verrucas, etc., on a walk-in or referred-by-GP basis.

He was probably a fore-runner of "Dr Pimple Popper".

Well it is done. The actual removal took less than 5 mins including a little local anesthetic injection, then it was all done. So I owe my GP mate a pint at the next lodge meeting, but let's just tally where the local NHS system had me so far:

1 x GP appointment (over a week wait)
1 x 40 minute consultation with an eye nurse including eye tests, urine test and BP check after a three month wait
1 x consultation with an NHS opthalmologist
1 x consultation with an NHS dermatology surgeon (still waiting for this one, will cancel)

And still the little thing remained.

Pure wastage. Glad it's sorted now.
