NON FUSE RELATED PROBLEM WITH WINDSCREEN WASHERS |
|
Hiya Guys,
Ive got the usual problem with my windscreen washers.
They worked really well up until a spell at -6 and then stopped. Its had two fuse replacements and currently has an unfrozen resevoir of neat windscreen wash.
The headlights clear but I am not getting anything to the front and rear screens and no noise from the pump.
Has anyone ever heard of a pump burning out under these circumstances?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, before I have to turn turtle and take it to the stealers
Cheers in advance,
Shanners

If you drop the left front wheel arch liner, at the front edge, you should be able to see the pump. Pull the plug off the motor and you should then be able to test for current.

Mine stopped working yesterday. Fuse was OK, think it maybe insufficient screen was. Was down to -15 lastnight. There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

May be relevant, maybe not but I have seen the impeller on a washer pump shredded by ice before (not D3). Motor still ran but didn't/couldn't pump anything. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

problem = fuse 11 in the glovebox. (plus frozen washer pipes). fitted a new 15amp micro fuse, thawed out the washer system via a 30 minute drive and refilled with a strong screenwash mix.
to answer a couple of points in other threads if anyone is interested.......my 06 disco, has heated washer nozles (no idea when they are activated though - nothing in the handbook) and the headlights have their own washer pump (no idea what fuse protects it - nothing in the book). so moral is, if your headlamp washers work and your front + rear screen washers dont, it will be either frozen pipes or the glovebox fuse 11 (microfuse - like a knob i assumed it would be a normal sized car fuse and took 2 trips to bloody halfords!!)
in all my days i have never seen such a ridiculously bad design for that fuse box. i would actually phsically assault the man that designed that and expected a non-spider monkey to be able to manipulate the removal tool around the wiring loom - what a bunch of total c*nts!
