Non-TPMS wheels fitted to a TMPS enabled D3
Now being the proud owner of some new 17" alloys I'll need to get some 'suitable' tyres - which remains to be decided. Anyway, on my way up the M74 it dawned on me that the TMPS on the car may not like having 4 wheels fitted that do not send it any info. Presumably the TPMS will get upset and tell me to REALLY check the tyre pressures if there are no senders fitted! As I understand it the owner can not disable the TMPS, just select the High or Low option (I say this thinking RTFM!) although the dealer can. I have found the TPMS very helpful and it has never lied yet so would be keen to keep it functioning - it even told me the spare was low pressure the other day - it was down around 25PSI!
So what do I do - put up with the warnings all the time the 17s are on the car, or can I buy the TPMS valve senders from LR and have them fitted to the wheels when I get the new tyres fitted (if so any idea of the price of these?)

If the TPMS valves are not on your new tyres, then doesn't it just not detect them as they'll effectively be out of range? I don't know as I don't have it, but I'd have thought it woudl just not sense them rather than give an incorrect false reading?Bodsys Brake Bible
Relative to the tire pressure sensors, what keeps you from buying a set of 4 such sensors (they were readily available at my LR dealership, are made by VDO-Siemens, and are about 80 USD a piece). Can be installed very simply, when putting on the new tires to the wheels. Worked like a charm in my case.

That was part what I wanted to know - on the other hand, if I am running the tyres low in pressure, it will trip the sensor and keep alerting me to the fact that my tyres are underpressured. So, another option is just to fit the tyres without the sensors and drive blind!! UNless that too upsets the car.
BTW 80USD for each sensor is more than I paid each for the wheels & tyres!

a little late, but I can confirm that with wheels fitted without sensors you´ll see a pretty annoying TPMS error in the main display at start-up, and worse, a continuous yellow error lamp above the fuel indicator.
costs you about USD 100 dollars for each new valve, but, at least in my case, the authorized LR dealer says he will need another 1000 dollars to fit and program them!!!
anyone experienced whether this programming is something a regular tire dealer can do?__________________

Well for $1500 I think I would put up with the light and get the 19s back on ASAP!

OK - so 4 valves, 4 bike inner tubes at 30 PSI and the system will be happy?
The valves are not powered - how can they be bluetooth - must be RFID

not at all an option. remember that the 7 seater in Norway costs approx USD 200.000. USD 1.500 is less than 1% of total costs to get it perfect __________________

OK - put the 17" wheels on without TPMS, NO error in the display but the yellow engine management warning lamp is lit! No systems disabled, no bongs, everything works, no other lights on the display. Soft reset fails to clear.
So people, do you think it is the TPMS giving this warning or is my engine about to explode!

Forum search seems to suggest unrelated EGR valve issue as the most likely cause.......!
Now if I take it in next week maybe I'll get a nice loan car for the lakes....
