North Yorkshire Moors Green Laning

Spent Saturday out and about in the NYM National Park to do a bit of green laning, had a great day and did some great lanes, there were 2 D3's 1 D4 and a pretty special Defender 110. We started off with Rudland Rigg and finished off at Danby Beacon.

Here are a couple of photos and videos from the day

Looks good! Do I remember something last year about a suggestion to organise some trips lke that for people from outside the area who don't know all the local rules and regulations?

Nice vids Dan.

How difficult is Rutland. Wouldn't mind having a go at that at some point.

Rudland Rigg is fine to get up but I would recommend you have a spotter to guide you. There are some washed out parts early on with deep gullies but you can pick your way through them and then the steps just need to be taken carefully after that it is just one long long long track across open moorside. We cut off half way along and dropped down towards Farndale and that is a little bit more interesting but it does look like their has been some work done on it Thumbs Up

Photo #2 was taken on the steps at Rudland and the photo of George's Defender is just before you get to the steps

dam those steps look easy in a d4, last time i was up there i was in a D2 manual standard suspension.

just out of curiosity Ian, about 50sec in on the rudland rigg vid, there looks like there is still some of piste playing happening? on the left

The steps were pretty eaasy in the D4, mine has the locking rear diff also so it was just a case of letting the car 'walk' up the steps Thumbs Up

I see what you mean about the track at 50 seconds, unfortunately we saw evidence like this all over the moors Evil or Very Mad In some places the land owners have had to dump piles of stones in places where this has happened, I just wish people would have some personal responsibility and if they want to tear through mud bogs etc just go to a pay & play site Rolling Eyes

I take its a legal green lane and .most of the time non damaging.

Yes it's a legal green lane and providing you don't do anything silly it is non damaging, I am getting a bit nervous of doing lanes at the moment as I have a new D4 coming in September and I don't want any damage to this one before it goes Thumbs Up
