Haha, not having a go at you ALan, more the good ol' Beeb...
I've driven that section of road lots of times, and all the roads in the 500 'route', though never all as one trip.
Hope you enjoy the trip when it happens.

Part of the video isn't the 500. Does it matter? The point made by the locals is fair enough.

If one part is wrong, how can you be confident the rest is correct?
Are the people actually locals? Are they telling the whole truth?
( )
But what's the point in sending a reporter and film crew to the far north and filming sections of the route, then filming a road that isn't part of the route, in an article about the route. Especially when it's that section that is shown on the main page for the article on the BBC website.
They only had 500 miles to choose from I suppose...

Quite often library pictures are used. You see it on the main news every night, normally you notice it's not the right season, doesn't mean the rest of the story is made up, but believe what you like.
I certainly know from people I know living up there that the hoteliers and B&B people love it because it's making them a mint, but to Crofters and a lot of others, it's a PITA because of traffic volume and driver behaviour. It's just the other side of the coin and no one would want to see the attaction for people visiting destroyed by the same people it's attracting. I mean a dozen LRs travelling in a convoy might not be a big deal to some, but to others it's an intrusion,
That's said. It's a fad, give it a couple of years and somewhere else will be in the spotlight.

The feedback on the NC500 facebook group, of which I have been a member for over six months, is that it is the locals that are the biggest problem in terms of poor driving D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..
