Not steering straight after changing front tyres

Recently changed the front tyres for new Pirellis, and put those on the rear as they were the oldest.

The car was up on a ramp after fitting the tyres the car would not steer straight and it is very scary, like driving on ice.

Took the car to check the tracking and underneath and there is nothing obvious.

I checked on my fault code reader and nothing showing with the suspension sensors which I did have a few months ago.

What could be causing the car not to drive straight? I am constantly having to correct from left to right and right to left.

Are the new tyres rotational?

Probably needs a 4wd alignment. Changing the tyres has probably knocked the alignment when the wheels themselves were removed and by the sounds of it the camber has been affected so you are no longer in contact with as much of the ground at the front.

Happened to me and a Hunter 4wd alignment sorted it.

This may show you what could have happened to your front wheels when they were removed to have the tyres changed/balanced.

Hope you get it sorted.

Surely just taking the wheel off wouldn't have thrown the alignment out?

I have always put on Pirelli Scorpion Zero's never had a problem as this before, I am was checking them to see if they were rotational or not. Surely the tyre fitter would have realised if they were?

I will double check again.

The tracking does feel like it is all over the place and with four new tyres on it is really awful but have put the older tyres back on the rear making it somehow possible to drive but only at max 50 mph.

Could the air suspension struts be causing a problem? Are there any sensors there?

Done badly knocking the wheel off camber can be done..

Poor technique and both could be knocked out.

Bad camber feels like you are all over the place, especially if both are.

Thanks, that is what I was concluding yesterday with the tracking as I drove late at night with no cars on the road testing what happens correcting the steering.

It would be my first check and action before anything else... (after tyre pressures..).

Hope you get it sorted. It does sound as if it needs a proper alignment by someone who knows what they are doing.

When replacing just two tyres, always fit the new ones on the rear. That applies if your vehicle is 4WD, RWD or FWD. Thumbs Up

^Me neither, I've never had it happen with a wheel change, but the description suggests misalignment.

I've had wheels not balanced properly a couple of times, but the symptoms for that are different from those described.

Decided to take to the local LR main dealer in Gdansk for a full health check.

Now a long and expensive list for a 199,500 mile 2005 Disco 3. It has been a great car for 11 years but now the costs to keep it going are mounting up. I have a quote for all parts from LR Gdansk for £6500.00.

Started leaking from the engine which is the first time since I have had the car.

We love the car and as there is no sale value in it anymore I guess it's best to replace the parts but not at Polish prices.

Turns out with the old tyres on it was not possible to really detect any problems with the suspension.

With the new tyres Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/55/19 on it exposed the bushes in the rear upper and lower arms hence I put the old tyres back on the rear as it was fish tailing like crazy with the new tyres.

Problem here is getting parts and with most parts outlets in UK are not posting out here even LR Gdansk has to wait weeks as they too have to order from the UK.

I am having to change the rear upper and lower arms and control arms and also the front at least then it will go straight.

200K service to do plus new air reservoir as rusting, also probably a good idea to change the air struts as they have never been replaced since I have had it.

Thanks for all your help!!
