This is a serious message for those who have no alternative to their mobile 'phones.
My godson & his wife have removed their landline and broadband connection, and are 100% reliant on their mobile 'phones for telephony & internet access.
I too have no landline, and rely on VoIP, but my broadband is provided by a conventional ISP.
I also have, for emergency use if required, a couple of data SIM cards from different networks which will plug in to my router, or to a MiFi.

Similar to above, I have Fibre broadband with modem and router both covered with their own UPS each. UPS also cover a a couple of DECT phones. I have a 4G router with external antenna that works on fallback in the event of loss of fibre, and have cards for 2 networks on standby as required.
Chuck in a couple of log burners, a worktop camping gas stove and a couple of spare laptop batteries and I'm good. Not completely foolproof by any means, but enough to allow me to continue to work from home (and more importantly bill my clients!) in adverse conditions. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

If only more people did this! Hopefully this will be a wake up call to people that are reliant on mobile data for their livelihoods. While the outage shouldn't have happened, things do go wrong and businesses need reliable plans in place to keep working.
Definitely makes more sense to have a cheapo SIM ready to go rather than complain and demand compensation after the event.

I didn’t even notice till lunchtime as working from home and connected via WiFi.
When I ventured out I tethered my O2 phone to my Vodafone when required (as I CBA to replicate apps on my Vodafone.
I also have Vodafone in car so covered twice over. SWMBO used to be on Orange but is also now O2 so third option depleted.
I may just get an Orange/3 PAYG SIM for in the spare phone then taking this outage as a warning
Guess they’ll be an upward blip in purchase of cheap burner phones and PAYG SIM’s

This is a foretelling of the issues that will occur when we have "bad relations" with Russia / China etc. While we spend billions on nukes etc, they are putting lots of effort in ways of attacking our infrastructure.
Think no power, no comms, no anything, all at the press of a button in Beijing. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
