United States 2005 LR3 4.0 V6 Petrol SE Auto Java BlackLR3
Off-Road 101

Saturday will be my first venture off-road with the LR3 and I'm feeling a bit intimidated by all the fancy gadgets.

The terrain will be mud, sand, maybe some shallow water, and moderate hills, nothing too extreme. Is it best to set the terrain response and just let the rig handle most the maneuvering or is it better to go the manual command shift route for the most part?

Any tips and advice for a first timer is appreciated. Embarassed

I personally let the gears do their own thing. Select mud n ruts and low range, the suspension will raise and off you go. If the downhill bits are not too extreme then switch the hdc off as it can get annoying.

Guys just a point.... if and when using HDC ..would you not put it into Command Shift to prevent upshifting, or do you just keep it in Auto and let HDC do it's thang?

Oh good I was hoping that's what you'd say. It's with the manual stuff that I get most confused right now so the least I have to do the better. Laughing

I'll get pics definately!

If you are auto use the command shift 1st for down hill 2nd for up hill. This is the basic starting point for 80% of 4x4ing don't ask about the other 20% Shocked

let the auto do it's thing - along with HDC. Use momentum where you need to and WALK to check out bits you can't fron the drivers seat, like over the crests of ridges. Spend time planning the route and dont assume the vehicle in front took the best route Rolling Eyes - if in doubt, there is no doubt - DON'T DO IT!!! Wink

Other than that - have FUN Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy and enjoy poking the flat-earthers in the eye with your LR3 8)
