Just moved up to D3 from D1 and insured with NFU Direct following a month checking fine print of multiple quotes.
They offered FULL off road cover (not just green lanes), unlimited miles, very low excess, europe use etc at lower price than existing company and were heplful and easy to deal with. Also offer 2 years 'new for old' should then unthinkable happen even tho we are second owner.
Adrian Flux expensive and only green lane cover
Cheapest (but not best cover) were AIG Direct and Zurich Connect.
Good luck

But where in the policy documentation or certificate or schedule does it specifically mention and define Full Off Road cover?

Having just read through the policy wording for the NFU I cant find anything either ...nor on the 4x4 page
http://www.nfumutual.co.uk/you/4x4-insurance/index.htm
I would want it in writing TBH 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Quoting from my NFU certificate:
"You are covered for social, domestic and pleasure purposes and commuting.
The vehicle may also be used for towing without reward a trailer or any one disabled mechanically-propelled vehicle.
You are not covered for commercial travelling, racing, speed testing, competitions, rallies (other than road safety rallies and treasure hunts), trials or track days, carriage of passengers for hire or reward, or for any purpose in connection with the motor trade.....".
I don't have any concern regarding greenlaning as vehicles using legitimate open byeways are legally required to have road tax, insurance cover and an MOT (if appropriate) as they would on normal roads.
My concern really is whether the policy actually covers damage to my vehicle or damage caused to another vehicle whilst, for example, on a forum event such as a driver training day.

Asked them to specify in cover letter (use off road away from biways eg forest tracks, fields, mountain tracks etc) but excludes time trials, rallies etc anfd made sure I checked via phone so there is verbal and written contract.

Define pleasure purposes
As long as you not competing or doing time trails on or off road, you are covered.

Well I agree Simon ...it doesn't say. But then that's a double edged sword ....either they will shag you if you crash when off-road or it means that all insurance policies that don't mention it cover you off-road 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Tend to agree with Simon. If you have informed company of all material facts (ie you are going to use off road) and they insure then that is the contract.
Did this with More Than (RSA) and Esure and both said they did not cover off road use.
Besides NFU all manner of off road use for farm vehicles so hopefully know what they are doing

err not sure that Simon meant that you have informed them ..he is implying that this is covered regardless 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

mmmm, Good point DG....have to admit I informed them re off road since the catch all on policies seems to be 'inform of material facts'.
Before that I had always assumed that off road was covered on Esure or More Than policies.
Better not tell the insurance company where the works car goes but lets just say the ESP traction control works well

I checked verbally with them and they said was I am covered as long as i am not competing or using the vehicle for reward (so free rescues from em then).
I will get it writing though now just in case as you have me all paranoid again

I don't blame you Simon... better safe than sorry ...I made LRI send me a letter to cover TorqTune on the 09MY ...even though I haven't had TFC apply it yet When I claimed for my mishap I gave LRI the co-ordinates of the offending tree to confirm just how off-road it was ...and they didn't bat an eyelid 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
