Example: Farmer has a D3 insured by A.Insurance Ltd. Whilst in the field he reverses into a tree. Would A.Insurance allow the claim of would he of needed 'Off Road Cover'.

Depending on the answer, I expect a few horsey people OR TINTENTERS might be interested to know - as both are OFF ROAD - farm or caravan sites are OFF ROAD.......

I think most insurers who offer 'off road' cover, when asked to qualify the level of cover will say you are not covered if you pay to drive off road, ie pay and play day. If you are on a caravan site, or you are a farmer tending your flock, and you slide into a tree, you have not had to pay purely for the privilege of driving there, so would be covered.

There are a lot of insurers making a big thing out of offering 'green lane' cover, when in fact all insurance covers green lanes, as they are public roads.

Just rang them for a quote as the NFU quoted a staggering £670 this year and that includes the loyalty bonus!!

Unbelievable....exactly as countrywide has said above plus volunteer response, combine escorting and all the clobber on the car no problem...me and the wife £404!!!!

Still waiting for my NFU renewal to arrive. My D1 and D3 are on the same policy with them.

Interested to know what the Adrian Flux 'proper off road' cover actually covers you for. Anyone?

I tried Adrian Flux again this year.

They told me they do off-road cover (exc. timed trials etc but inc. pay and play) but I had to argue to have it specifically written down - in the end I got an email stating off-road use was covered.

As it was, by the time they bumped up the premium for having a sump guard, having a predilection for scratching my a Censored e and everything else, it wasn't worth it and I've stayed with LR. I'm not sure how binding the email would be anyway.

LR are bl Censored dy expensive but so was the car and I pay for the postcode, having had a bump, mileage, business use etc.

I guess it's pay your money, take your choice.

I know some people don't bother when off-road but what would be the situation if it wasn't just your car you damaged or (God forbid) you hit a third party?

It beggars belief that Insurers jack up premiums because mods that are designed to minimalise or prevent damage to the vehicle have been fitted. Mods that increase performance are another matter.

Not really, if you are fitting vehicle protection then the chances are you are concerned about what damage you might end up with while out playing. well, so are the insurers so they ramp the price up as they believe you will enter more dangerous situations.

In which case why do Insurers not offering anything other than normal on road cover jack up premiums because you've fitted additional protection such as a sump guard or sill guards? You're only covered on road. They're not going to cough up for a claim where you've been in a more dangerous situation in their view are they.

Because green lanes count as "on road" (you have to be taxed, insured and MOT'd to drive on them) yet you are more likely to sustain damage caused only by yourself when using them? And by preparing your vehicle with "off road" protection, are you more likely to use lanes which are potentially damaging/ dangerous where they would still be required to pay out? In their eyes, probably...

A bit like when I fitted uprated brakes to my Mitsubishi Evo - A safety thing yes because I could stop better.

Also meant I would be more likely to drive harder. Too True!

I just called Adrian Flux and got cover to include mods (Engine re-map, sump guard, nudge bar) and off-roading for £60 more than my policy from Bell. And with half the excess...So not too bad at all... Thumbs Up

(Especially as I called Bell to see if they covered the re-map...They immediately cancelled my policy! Embarassed )
