Off road training / experience west Yorkshire |
|
Hi,
I have just got a D3 and before I try it out, and consequently do some damage, I would like to get a bit of experience and or training. I am sure that the LRE is the best bet, but it is out of my budget at the moment.
If anyone can recommend somewhere, ideally near saddleworth moor but just the NW /NE, I would much appreciate it.

Protrax do a good day training. Meets at the LRE at Corbu then heads to Tixover for the day. We had an LRE instructor when I took my brother there in my D3.
Only £50 if one driver, £65 if two.

Colin Bell from uklandroverevents offers training at Robin Hoods Bay and is very very good - he also offers driving days and can be found here;
http://www.uklandroverevents.com/events.htm "UNDERSTEER" ---is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" -is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" ------------is how far you take the fence with you.

That does look good and reasonably priced. Idealy I want practice in another vehicle before mine. Plus theres a traction fault so special functions arent available. Thanks for the heads up and once things are working properly, I will give them a go. I do like the fact you can take A N Other as my eldest son is keen to have a go too.

At uklandroverevents you can use either your vehicle or his Defender or Disco 4 so you have the option. Colin is also getting a new Defender very soon that will also be available to use.
He is registered, qualified and insured and does the job full time unlike some who have no qualifications etc.
His events are also very well run and everyone has a 2 way radio supplied for the day, a bag of sweets and gets a copy of the pics he takes throughout the day.
Been using Colin since 2008 and would happily use him for training, drives and trips abroad "UNDERSTEER" ---is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" -is how fast you hit the fence.

I think the missus would kill me if I added off road trips, shes only just started skiing and has sort of forgiven me for the snowboarding holidays!
I like the look of the organised day trips once I have everything working. The wife loves Whitby, so I could combine a trip for her with a day out for me and my eldest. If I do get anything organised I will drop you a line in case you are around. Once again thanks for the recommendation! Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Could also try George Spoors who runs Trails and Tracks. If you check his website you'll see all the trios he does, many are around Yorkshire and beyond.
It's a very friendly group, and lots of help is offered along the routes.
All different levels of users, but care is taken to look after you and your car.
Also a Facebook page.
