hi all  looking for some where to go between christmas and new year.some people say tom's farm just after abit of mud and off road lanes but not after the crazy stuff as less damage as poss with no pressure .and about a hour and a half from shropshire

Hi there.
I have used Toms Farm (near Rhyder(Sp?) with the AWDC as a Safari site some time ago. It has some scary steep grass banks that I would not want to take the D3 on. (The old racer once run out of power trying to go straight up and ended up in an uncontrolled slide backwards down to the bottom!!!  )
ISTR that it is very popular with dirt bikes and quads and it can get a bit out of hand but maybe this has improved now?
I would have thought a better day could be had on some of the local greenlanes - there is some amazing scenery to be had in that part of the world and if treading "lightly" no damage risk.

Otherwise known as Cwmderw, I think its been closed down.
I have been there a few times, but it was always a bit of a lawless place, which I would not want to take my D3 to. Some good off roading, but zero supervision.

From what I can gather from other 4x4 forums became totally lawless and overrun with bikes and quads, has been shut down and prosecuted, lots of warnings on other forums about this site

great fun on an enduro bike riding up the widow maker but a D3
no way would i take a decent motor around there the place has been trashed by yobs on quads with no helmets, boots, armour or any other protection and idiots of every other source you could imagine
save your D3 for some nice green lanes and drive them whilst you still can
shawn bali blue disco 4 with rear dvd's, privacy glass, pre heat system, heated steering wheel, full size spare, piano black trim, ipod cable, 20 inch wheels and i love it loads more than my TDV8 RRS, KTM 250 EXC 2 Stroke for the real off road stuff

I have raced there years ago with the AWDC, used to be a great site, they used it as part of the Welsh Hill Rally back in the good old days.
Went back a few years ago with my son on our Quads, agree it was a tad wild with no rules and reg's, great place for Quads, we had a great day with all the right gear on.
The "Widow Maker" is what it is, got 3/4 of the way up it and almost filled my pants, then rode down it from the top, can still feel my nut's tighten when I think about it.
Would not take a heavy 4x4 over there to play, I think there have been a few fatality's over the years.

I'm up for some laning in mid-Wales if anyone is organising it- though I don't mind putting some together based on where I've been over the last year. I'll post some more pics on here when I get chance- non-damaging and there are some with a little water if you don't mind getting the tyres a little wet!  D4 HSE in Stornoway- love it. Jaguar XF, MG TF, D2 ES V8 and 2x TR7s for playing!
Gone- D3- a fortune spent and now a lovely car for it's new owner; D2 G4 replica- Tangiers Orange and survivor of 2 Pot Noodle Challenge's!

Ive had some great fun up at Toms farm in the past on endurro bikes and in my 300TDi discovery. But as someone has said Tom and his wife were sentenced for health and safety laws ( Or lack of)!
But on a sad note the land has been closed and im pretty sure will never open again as Tom has recently passed away.
Bless him, he always had your enjoyment at heart!! And if you ever went and didnt enjoy yourself.

And if you ever engaged him in conversation - you were there for an hour at least. You could never shut him up RIP.
I'm sure if he had been a bit more business savy, and sympathetic to the area he was in, he could have made a great business out of the place.
