Off-road recovery assistance in Sussex

I have done a very silly thing - thought my garden was dry enough to take the Discovery 3 down a grassy slope! It’s stuck. No winch and I would worry about a recovery vehicle (friend or by sons Defender) also getting stuck or not having a long enough winch cable.

If we don’t sort something out this weekend, does anyone in the mid sussex area (Danehill) have recovery boards I could try?

Is there space to get moving down hill, then turn up with a bit of momentum?

If so, terrain response has a nasty habit of cutting the power when you don’t want it, so DSC off / sand mode and floor it has been known to work.

1 - point the car up hill

2 - plant foot fully down on loud peddle and keep it there

3 - turn the steering wheel enough to keep her pointing up the hill

4 - prey!!

DEFLATE your tyres!

Like pressure drops to 1.2-bar and even lower if needed..

Remove the mud ridges with a shovel in the drive direction and there you go…

put ropes under your tyres ?

also ... I'm told Whistle plastic bread trays (as seen piled up at side of road sometimes ) are very good ways of getting some grip.

Is there a sturdy tree nearby that you could borrow or hire a tirfor winch to use on? Dig the tyres out first and then air down before winching back

Thank you for all the advice. It’s a good forty metres to firm land, mostly in a straight line. I have some ropes and boards that mean I hope to get you son’s Defender on firm surface for a tow. Don’t want him to also get stuck.

But he also suggested I try my snow chains.

I have some short scaffold boards that have two battens underneath that will stop them slipping out. When I used them today, the car slid off, but perhaps with chains they will bite. Aiming to try that first. Then revert to Defender pull on Sunday. Will drop the pressure as suggested.

I will post some pictures!

This gives some idea of the route back up. The Disco was resting against two small trees!!!!

This suggests the hill is less shallow than it is! What was I thinking???
