oil change & suction pump |
|
Does anyone have experience with oil suction pump on D3?
How much do you get out with the pump or does half of the old oil stays in?
I have the impression that a lot of old oil is not retrieved. 05 TDV6 HSE AUTO 7seats, tonga green/alpaca, alpine roof, privacy glass, tow kit, wood kit, 20" stormers n summer, 18" in winter, fancy exhausts, rear seat ent., club fooked turbo!

I have used a boat style suction pump to remove oil from the dipstick hole of the D3 through a tube. As the receiving container is graduated in litres you can tell what has come out. In my view it removes 99% of the oil in the sump based on the volume coming out. I have used the same suction pump to remove oil from my BMW X5 and it is successful in that application as well.
The version that I am talking about has a 6 litre clear plastic receiving tank which is evacuated using a built in hand pump which then sucks out the warm oil. They are designed for boats where you can't get at the sump plug as it is in the bilge.

I dont trust suction pumps. I would rather get underneath and drain the old oil out that way.
Gets much more oil out, and any swarf etc that may be sitting at the bottom of the sump once the engine has been switched off. Especially cars with magnetic sump plugs...

I have one and to be honest I would not use anything else now, I spent 25 years getting under cars to drain the oil when I was a mechanic, this gadget is the dogs .......
