Oil leaks and extended warranty?

I have a March 2015 HSE. In March 2018 I took out the extended warranty. It just went in for 80,000 mile service at local indie, and they diagnosed oil leak on transfer box, and oil leak on off side turbo drain. I asked them to fix under warranty, they contacted the warranty company (car care) who said they would not cover it as known fault. Now booked into LR dealer on Tuesday. Advice required please

1. I don't think I should pay. Do you think the work should be done at cost of either LR or warranty company?
2. Does anyone have advice on how to handle this to get best result?

Thanks

George

It seems to me the extended warranty with LandRover (CareCare) ...is worthless ...its always a 'known fault' or some such.... a bit like when the crankshaft fails..... it beggars belief LR and its associates can get away with this nonsense..... Rolling Eyes

When I was in the process of reviewing and purchasing my extended warranty, the service contact at my local dealer happened to ask me if I was going to buy the LR warranty. I replied that I wasn’t because I had rung the sales team who confirmed it would not cover a snapped crank. This comment went unchallenged.

I had a leak on my transfer box a few years back. Warranty direct covered it.

I think the key with them is if it’s a leak, they will fix it. If it’s light misting, they probably won’t Thumbs Up

Ok, I have literally just put the phone down after renewing extended warranty (full not select version) with LandRover.

I specifically asked if the Crank shaft snapping is covered and he went away and checked. He confirmed that it is and furthermore I have asked for the document where this is stated and the date, time and reference number of the phone call recording (they are all recorded).

Leak on the casings is also covered and is NOT wear and tear. The only time they will refuse the former is if vehicle been used out of spec.

If they try to weasel out of a claim with the above then I will leave it to my hot shot pal lawyer! Thumbs Up

He got Warranty Direct to settle an issue on my Audi A2 when they also tried to claim wear and tear on a 20K mile car.

These people are loss adjusters at the end of the day. Having the 'product' through the main dealer means they can push the insurance company and so you have to always be prepared for a fight. A fix with no issues is not a given like ye good old days.

Hi,

It £118 per month for 10 months - same as last year despite a claim resulting in the Mass Airflow being changed which was settled with no issue.

I wouldn't bother with select as at £72 quid per month it only covers up to £3K on a nominated part which is pretty worthless on these cars.

Kindest,

J.

Ps. you have to service the car on time, but it can be an Indie or dealer as long as proof it done with a garage Vat receipt.

Is WD not better value on a three year deal?

The 3 year is only with the car from new. After this period it goes to extended (so year 4) and you can only buy this every 12 months till the car gets to 10 years or 100K miles when you can buy select past this point. The claim level is up to your purchase price / market value at the start of each year.

A positive story..... eventually.... although not finished yet. As there is so much bad press about dealers and LR warranty at the moment I think it only right to say when it works...

I dropped the car off on Wednesday and was phoned Thursday night and told it was ready. Went in Friday morning, only to discover nothing had been done at all. (The service rep didn't know that either until he called up the file in front of me). LR had apparently said the leaks were "within tolerances". Fortunately I had taken a photo of the transfer box leak, which was a lot more than a misting, there were definite drops of oil. The rep said it looked like a leak to him, and called over the service manager and the workshop manger. They both agreed that it looked like a leak to them too and would keep the car and see what they could do. I made the point that the warranty runs out in 2 months after which I would be paying....

I have just been phoned to say that LR have authorised the work. Apparently it was not straightforward to get agreement and they had to "escalate" the problem. The work should start today/tomorrow.

So I hope that I am not ahead of myself posting, but thanks to Inchcape Southampton for getting the right result.

Also replacing the heated steering wheel as that stopped working on the way in!
